« on: January 03, 2012, 07:52:12 PM »
Hi all, need some opinions here. Is it possible to get a pre-owned PAM for around 8k. Preferably a Luminor, leather strap, automatic? Pls PM me if you know where to get one, tq.

sorry to be a bummer but i dont think it is possible. As far as I know, even the manual ones go for >RM10k at least.

I would not say it is impossible, but you need to look very hard and be at the right place at the right time. Also you need to be very careful as sometimes, when things looks too good to be true....

I know of two lucky person who got Panerai watches at an unbelievable price last year. That 2 instances. One was a PAM00024 for RM8,000 and the best deal so far, PAM00004A for RM25,000.

So, all the best with the hunt.

Even though you met him, u would be suspicious. why is he selling below market value? Suffice, he said he needed cash but do you believe his story?

I will go with Hobbit's advice.
It may seems too good to be true, but sometimes at the right place and right time, you may get lucky. Just do some background check on the seller (if possible) and do read up or do some homework on your own on the various PAM model selling at RM12K or less.

1st of all they don't usually service the watch before sell, some more reason they don't know how to verify movement instead just check watch case and serial .certain watch is modified or service by non manufacture technician.that's why I mention not good advice ..last few words to tell: try your luck ! Friend.

As far as I know, they don't service the watch... yes... you can service it after you buy it if the watch is 5 years old or more...
As for verifying the watch, I think any pawnshop worth his salt will do the necessary work.
They won't drop a few thousand ringgit on a watch that they barely know or guaranteed original.
That's just my observation though...

Thanks guys for your inputs, perhaps raising my budget by a few K's might make things little easier. I reckon 12K would suffice??

for RM12k, i reckon you go for a handwind one. Most are of that price plus they are more collectable. The auto ones going at that price are either the less popular ones or the seller needs the money. Maybe the older auto ones such as the 104 with an early serial could by a long shot go for that price

Good advice there by G.Mac.
Also depends on your luck as well for a "durian runtuh" (ie cheap original PAM). Anyway, do your homework and check the piece you have in mind properly before you "pull the trigger">
Happy hunting, watchdog.
