any other requirements besides the price?
for e.g: case size? movement? new or pre-owned? sports or dress?

my suggestion:-

Stowa Partitio
price you may check from official online store (without VAT) it's within your budget.
37mm, solid case back, leather strap.

Stowa Flieger without logo
this one also within your budget, 40mm, flieger straps

Stowa Marine Automatic
this one too, 40mm with leather strap

Stowa Antea small second
35.5mm

Why i suggest Stowa, because within your budget range, this is one of the well build timepiece you can find in market.
They provide great customer service.

i'm pretty sure all old men 60 years and above would love a Rolex even if they are not watch lovers. up your budget a little bit more and find a used, but great condition manual winding 6694 or double it for a automatic. many choices out there.

you only have one dad and mine moved on before i could afford him one.

Get a 14000 Airking or 15000 Date

Simple, robust and bulletproof Rolex. Can be had for quite a bargain in the pre-owned market. 34mm a good size and also it's automatic. Wear and forget.

but think on average both models would run you about +-RM5k.

A 6694 is a "female dog" when it comes to repair and needs to have the crown tube replaced every few years because of the daily winding stripping out the threads.

+100 for the rolex suggestions.

Or maybe you can find an Omega that might suits your dad. A seamaster auto/quartz perhaps..

Another good watch would be the omega AquaTerra cal. 2500.

Price wise, should be around >5K pre-owned

Why not try looking at baume and mercier. They have pretty nice designs and I think its quite porpular among folks at your dad's age.

won't worry about service costs for a gift to a 60+ dad..

Wouldn't it be far easier to get an auto watch for his dad, than one that would not require him to unscrew the tiny twin lock everyday and constantly living with the fear of overwinding and thread stripping?

It's all about practicality. Not that I have anything against 6694, but I would not certainly recommend the watch to a non WIS.

The recommended service interval for a 6694 is around 2-3 years to replace the tube versus 5 years for a 3000, 3035 ..etc auto movement.
