Seiko perpetual batt Chg
« on: November 05, 2011, 04:36:31 PM »
Hi

Has anyone changed their seiko perpetual date watch battery before? It seem like a complex process. The service outlets charge between rm70-80. Any idea why it is so expensive considering the battery is about rm20. I understand the watch ic board has to be reset properly.

Thx

Dunno about yours but is your the one that had 10 year battery life? Maybe the cost of this battery (it was big fat battery) was one of the factor. When the batt taken off, the watch will still run for like 4-5 min at the current setting so the watchmaker had to change the battery in that time frame so that the setting doesnt go erased. And yes, its a pain in the arse if you lose the factory setting and trying to claw back to current date/time.

Yup I und what you mean. The risk of short circuiting the whole thing is very high. Not to mention the difficultness to reset the date to correct ones.

3) if in KL, at Petaling street (was told at Selangor building).

FINALLY. I nailed it. It was not a straight path. Luckily I didn't use the hammer and smash the watch :)

I followed the instructions to the dot from the official seiko manual and working guildeline from the internet. The instructions are nothing but correct. Just a twist, if your perpetual watch battery originally came with a insulator, peeled the insulator and stuck it to the new battery before placing the new battery into the watch. This is because the watches mentioned in the instructions used calbres that provide an additional insulator. Either you get a Seiko battery with the insulator or moved the old insulator to the new battery, you will not able to reset the watch properly.
