Overpriced?
« on: October 16, 2011, 07:37:28 PM »
Hi guys, I'm in a bit of dilemma here and am hoping for some help/opinion. I recently found a brand new Sub 16610LV in one of our local AD and I really want it. The only thing holding me back is the price which according to the AD, the watch is at a premium because it's discontinued and possibly the last brand new piece left in the country. AD is asking for RM24K net. What do you think? Is it worth it or completely over priced?  ??? Now I know some of you would say just buy whatever that sings to you and believe me this sings to me like no other but just not sure if I should be paying so much for it. I'd appreciate any advice/comment you may have. Thanks!

Don't know if it is over priced or not, but they are going for about RM23k on the pre-loved market here in Taiwan.

unless you don't intend to wear it, why bother paying so much more? pre-owned is much cheaper and an AD asking for above MSRP is not allowed by Rolex anyway.

Is it overpriced?
I've checked prices (internet lah) & found it to be priced at around USD7,+++ (new).
That converts to about RM24,+++.
But I do agree with dpkong - wise words, Bro.
Take care, Ciao!

At that price, mind as well get the GMTw ceramic...
You get extra function, ceramic bezel, new style bracelet and clasp.
That's just me though, or you can always buy the one a member is selling here.

Definitely overpriced....I would go for pre-owned, unless you do not intend to flip in the future, I mean from you pass down to yr children, then BNIB sure make a lot better even with some premium.....unlike the pre-owned, don't know how many uncle before you  ;D

Just my 29 cents

Thanks for the reply guys. Hobbit & Bryan, thanks for the price info/confirmation. I guess that’s what I’d have to pay if I’m looking for Brand New.  dpKong & zitan, I can’t agree with you more and I have looked at a couple of pre-loved ones but unfortunately I can’t bring myself to purchase a used one. It’s just the OCD side of me that will continue to bug me if I go for a used one. I’d rather have a peace of mind knowing that it was never handled before.  I probably have to pay the price for my own OCDness.  Btw Hanz, I’m only into divers so GMT is out of the question but since you mentioned ceramic models, I am however also thinking of the 116610LN since the price difference between the previous LV and current LN is only RM1K! siodee, you've got a point there too. Oh well….  :-\

I will say it's expensive instead of overprice.. worth or not it's really depend how much you really willing to pay for a discontinued piece but a brand new one...  i think the pre-owned is around 16K to 19K depending on the condition (still can get a full set pre-owned)... you can search around if you don't mind pre-owned otherwise i think a bit difficult to get a brand new with original retail price... just my opinion...

Yeah, the new ceramic sub is good enough.
Classic color combo...

Hmm...I guess I'll just have to pass on the Sub 16610LV. Seems like many of you feel the same way about it's pricing. I'll call the AD now to not hold for me any more and let someone else who is willing to pay have a go at it. Thanks guys! You've been much help!

If buying overpriced, even popular Rolex model, will certainly loose money. If possible, buy at low price always even with patience to wait long time :)
