Looking for a watch beater . Maybe a German beater ..?
« on: October 16, 2011, 02:49:39 PM »
As the title suggests, i am looking for a daily watch. The Seiko which i am currently wearing is almost 10years old, but i has a lot of scratches. I love the watch ( first watch my father gave me) and still think its beautiful. However, its starting to look dated.

My budget is around 2-3k.
Round shape
size 40-44mm
Not too "dressy"
The watch must be able to take lots of beating , as i take if off/on constantly at work . Has daily contact with surgical strength soap.
For swimming
Something different from the usual Tissot, Victorianox, casio...
Lum is added bonus

Been looking at some German watches here , and they seriously look great. Love the  Sinn U ranges but too ex for a beater.  However , dont see many shops selling them. Where do you guys buy your Steinhart,Damasko, Sinn...etc watches?
Not sure if these watches are above my budget tho , since i dont have much experience with them

What do you guys think.

IMHO. Beater watches are watches that you could afford to buy and wear around without giving them a care and possessively babying them.

Any watches can be a beater watch, depending on how a person values his / her watches.

Lets just say you have a higher priced / or holy grail watch which you would like to keep in pristine condition and right now you can afford to splash around 10% of that value to get a beater watch of which you can afford to wear and abuse it…now this one is a beater watch…..confused?

dc
I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

There is new German baru keluar watch, see the pict below, perhaps you can consider that

and come with features like DSSD, automatic valve

You can check out from the net for the price, not expensive though compare to DSSD  ;D

As for daily beater, it depend on yourself, for me, I will wear my Citizen Eco-Drive, cause no need to adjust anything, just grab and wear especially for weekday, that is just me..

Dievas Focal. Huge watch... looks solid... price wise abit on the high side.
Siodee, when you were at Ander's shop, any chance did he tell you when the new Damasko watches will be available?

The one I was holding, belong to Anders, yup, quite big and thick, apparently it is build with the same tech like Damasko, harder than Sinn  :o, according to him. But I am not convinced  ;D, retail at SGD1.8k

The new one is not there, still selling the existing model

Dievas will be a good bet .......... unless end up in siodee hand :Laughing_on_floor:

What will happen if it is on my wrist???  ;D

hi guys, correct me if I'm wrong. Apart from Lange, GO, Nomos, Dornbluth, Lang & Heyne, the other German watches (Sinn, UTS, Schaumberg, Meistersinger, Muhle Glashutte, etc are using ETAs)
Do any of you know whether there is any shop in Klang Valley selling Nomos, Dornbluth or any other German watches with their own movt?

i would suggest hold on to your ammo a little longer, save up more bullet and go for the Germans...I think a Sinn diver or Damasko will make fit your requirements...

Another option. Why don't you get your watch polished and get the necessary TLC from a professional? You'll get back a watch that you already like looking brand new! cheaper alternative too.

My vote go for Sinn as well. HourGlass boutiques carries them. Price ranges from RM5K to RM20K.
Their technology is impressive- tegiment steel, submarine steel, dialplan, AR, just to name a few.
