« on: October 15, 2011, 11:08:37 PM »
as per topic, let's discuss this watch. i'm taking a liking to it. topics of discussion are...

1. optimum price to pay
2. mechanical characteristics, pros and cons.

enough of the PAM should be 44mm on leather, 40mm and steel bracelet is not a Panerai, etc etc...

dpkong,

What is there not to like about the watch? It is one of my favourite Panerai. To me it is the anti-Panerai DNA watch. Why?

40 mm instead of 44 mm or 47 mm or larger.
Busy dial vs plain simple dial.
Titanium and ss bracelet vs leather strap. Of course you can remove the bracelet and put on a leather strap or buy the PAM00074 which is the same watch but with leather strap.

Anyway, I like the watch. It has a titanium case with ss bezel, Zenith column wheel chronograph movement, made for 3 years (C, D and E, some say 4 years, so F as well), Jason Statham wore one (ok, he wore the PAM00074, but it is basically the same watch, minus the 'alarm' function :) ) and the titanium and ss bracelet with its famous crown locking design (and it will fall apart problem).

The major problem is the price. The 'cheaper' PAM00074 is already breaching RM 20k and the PAM00072 is about RM 3 to 5 k more? Then there is the issue of the 'C' dial with it's 'cleaner' display (it does not have the half minute marks between the minute markers) fetching a premium.

The other problem is of course finding one in good nick, that is mechanically sound. The watch does have the chrono pusher problem because of he crown guard and the locking lever getting in the way. Some people actually unlock the crown guard to use the chrono function. Then there is the bracelet problem (see above).

I myself have been contemplating getting one, but the price always gets me in the end. Maybe one day.......

so what would be a "good" price for a pre-owned PAM00072 then?
