Watchnewby: I have to admit I am not s sure. The problem with DSLR is Im guessing you need better lenses? The point and shoots are rather fixed. Still trying to figure it out. For some of the outdoor photos I realised that the DSLR is much better

My guess is that with dSLR, you need more time to figure out how to make the most out of it.
Fiddling with the P, A, S or if it sounds too technical, just used auto or the pictures which denotes the type of picture you want to take (eg. sports, macro etc)
On the other hand, with a PnS, it is simpler, just point and shoot, no need too much fiddling on the settings.
