Just a thought, has anyone found a way to stop collecting watches? Other than the fact we are going bankrupt..I cant seem to stop.

There is no known cure at the moment.
But if this hobby is burning a hole in the pocket and it's hurting the budget, I believe a person will automatically stop.... For the time being.
It's just a hobby, don't let it mess with the other necessities.
I guess when a person realized that this hobby and passion is making the bills harder to pay, theat is when the person need a reality check.
Dun buy a watch with future money ie: credit cards, loans n etc.
If there is a need to use credit ard, make sure the cash is there to cover.

well i've learned the following :

(1) don't chase freshly new out models
(2) don't chase premium priced models especially when it's peaking. so, be patient
(3) try preloved pieces, they are just equally as good and deserve tender loving care
(4) wear what u like, sell what u don't (esp those lying around)

Some suggestions to stretch our horology budgets:

i) With Swiss watch prices soaring into the stratosphere it may be prudent (and less painful to our pockets) to start looking into timepieces from Japan and Germany. I believe that watch prices from Seiko, Citizen, Orient, Sinn and Damasko have not increased that much compared to the Swiss brands.

ii) Flip off the older pieces in your collection and recycle the funds into newer timepieces. That should help alleviate some pain.

iii) Focus on the vintage/pre-owned markets in which the original owners have already absorbed the initial price depreciation.

iv) Join the nearest chapter of WIS-Anonymous, the support group for horology addicts like us. It's meant to help WIS deal with the financial consequences of our delightful but increasingly expensive hobby.

I guess what everyone say is very true. I am just asking in case one day it gets too heavy for me. For now, i am just coasting until the next big watch comes out in the market. I believe there is no stopping in this hobby. For now, i only buy what i can pay immediately without any circling debts or bills. Although I have not heard of anyone getting bankrupt over watches. Our higher thinking will surely pulls back to the ground. Nice to know there are others who thought about means to stop.

one way is to stop looking and participating in any watch forums whatsoever

What about setting strict parameters for your
collection. Say, mine used to be only GMTs
and Chronographs, but the temptation was still
there. I upped the ante by saying only in-house
movements, now that's more difficult. Every
watch now undergoes scrutiny as even some
manufactures use 3rd party movements. The
other thing is put your money into something
bigger, like investing on a house or another
property. 

This does not completely work but at least
tones down my purchasing considerably.

A very good advices from all the watch "sifu" here.

My take is be passionate about your horology hobby, but do not go overboard like borrow money (credit card/loan) to buy new pieces. Save for your next grail even if it takes a year or two.
Be patient.

Wasn't that fun to do hunting? Stop this hobby mean you will need another new hobby, start from scratch again, how many 10 yrs we have??? What I think, just control, and let the poison flow in our vein but not to the Heart.
