What is homage watch?
« on: August 24, 2011, 08:39:22 PM »
Is it just sort of a replica watch (replicating the design) but with different movement and bearing its own brand?
Please educate me...

Thanks

Covered many times here.
Simple search in the forum yield many results.

Thanks Takashi,

I guess I am too lazy to search....

But the real issue is why the double standard? We are not suppose to discuss on Replica, but we are treating Homage differently...

Does Homage considered as Intelectual Property infringement too?

IMHO, there is no double standard.

A replica looks 100% like the original expensive watch - the design, wordings, colours etc. (Also known as "fake" watch to the original)
For a newcomer, looking at a replica, he/she may think it is original.

A homage also looks like original but the wordings are different, ie it used its own name and model. To a newcomer, he/she will know straight-away that it is not the expensive watch because the wordings denote the manufacturer/brand which is different from the original expensive watch.
For eg a Seiko GMT which looks like a Rolex GMT. IMO, The Seiko is "paying homage" to Rolex.
