I noticed that the merc logo on the hour hand is not synonymous with just a brand but cut across many watch brands, Rollies, Tag Hauers etc. Can any sifu tell me about the history behind this particular logo?

The 'Merc' or 'Benz' hands is the 'next' stage in the development of the Cathedral hands. It is designed to have as much luminous material in one place. Also the design of the hands to to 'hold' the luminous material in place and not easily broken. Additionally it provides visibility when the hour hand is overlapped by the minute hands. These are some of the common assumptions. There is no real answer.

I'd shrug it off as elegant German engineering as well. It is entirely utilitarian as a design.
So, in the nutshell, the finer things in life does not have to be the most expensive or exotic item or place one could have.

Thanks for the info - In terms of brand association, that logo is synonymous with Mercedes Benz. Every time someone buys a watch with that logo, the car marker flashes in their minds - this is the best marketing - free marketing!

Wonder anyone from proton or perodua will like to take this challenge! :Laughing_on_floor:
