Evolution of a watch collection
« on: August 05, 2011, 08:49:52 PM »
New topic for today..how does your collection evolve and grow after a while? Do you move from quantity > quality > quality quantity? For myself, I started off with a lot of quantity then i start to consolidate my collection to move up the quality ladder. Haven't move on to quality quantity yet. One day perhaps. I move from 20+ watches to 5 now. I used to think buying 7 watches to rotate throughout the week would be great but now i think function and complication are also important. Nonetheless 7 is still my 'complete' number. What about you guys? Went through any changes in your collection over time?

Nice evolution bro, many of us is moving along your path.....when we started we went crazy for quantity, then the quality factor kicks in and we realize that numbers can't make it for a few quality pieces. As for me, i am numbering less than 8, some are just beaters such as my G shocks.....for no nonsense usages and to one or two special occasions. The in betweens are for when i desire a change in between these LOL.  :Laughing_on_floor: Whichever each chooses it is what makes them tick along their daily lifes.....just my 2 cents worth of ideas.  :mooning:

The virus got to me last October. Since then I have been collecting watches for their functionality and technology. Diving watches, dress watches, GMTs, quart analog, quart digital, cronos, solar powered, mechanical quarts, military, pilot etc. All in all, I have 16 watches at the moment.

I guess quality is still in the picture except that its not the high end ones. Mostly Japanese movements (10 of them while the rest are swiss).

Very soon the bug will evolve to one that will have expensive taste.....I dread how this will do to my bank account! :Blue:

I oso dunno I start with what.
Quality is subjective so I won't go there.
Now I am limiting my watches to around 4-5.
One Beater.
One Dress.
One Sporty.
One Itchy Butt.
One Itchy Fingers.

For myself, I also start with many watches. More of a collector of g-shioks and swatches. That time mostly quartz watches. Now interested in mechanical watches especially automatic and winding types. Will probably getting one of my "wants" (not need, mind you) in a month time.

Sometimes there are too many 'wants' that it is hard to prioritise. Lucky if they come one by one with good prices. Unlucky if all are available and in high demand+rare and are at good prices.

Thanks, Madziz.
Actually I have encountered mechanical watches before as my first watch during schooling times (a gift from my uncle) is a Hermes manual winding watch. Dunno where it is now, still searching the storerooms for it. Then my cousin sister gave me a "forgoten what brand" (maybe a Lucini or a Pricini, nor sure of the name) manual winding watch. Also dunno where it is (could be with my Hermes).

Not fair leh, I dun have any rich parents, uncle or auntie. Have to sweat myself out to attain what I have now, ........... no decent watch & still struggle to make ends meet :HammerHead:
We are d same la bro...
The most expensive watch my parents got me was a Q&Q watch some 20+ years ago...
Most of my classmate wear swatch or g-shock... Damn envy...
Promised myself that i would work my ass of so that i can afford to buy whatever watch that i like... More satisfying this way...
I have met alot of rich kids wearing subs and gmts and i comment on their nice watch... Their answer is... "Oh yeah? Its expensive? I dunno wor... Dad gave me wan..."
No fun right?

Those bro are brats LOL.....too lucky to be born without sweating from any effort. When we earn our keep, trust me it is a damn good feeling even if it is your own self acceptance. This is just my 2 cents of ideas though  :mooning: :Laughing_on_floor:

Being born rich is no fun?! You must be joking

If have a million to my name he moment I was born, of course something that cost 30k is chump change. Fun would be making that million into 2 and not slogging like a dog to buy a Rolex

No fun as in wearing expensive watches with no appreciation whatsoever.

:shocked1: Well, I have to sweat out myself to buy a house (still owned by bank), a car (just got the registration card transfered to my name after my last instalment), now saving to buy watches.
So who's the one that have rich relatives giving expensive gifts? I would like to be their god-son, no?
