Hi guys,

Have you guys ever experienced the scenario that u've saved hard for a watch and all of a sudden u happen to have the funds spent on other things that comes along the way.

Share you experiences to help a newbie like me

The rule of life - there is always something that can overwrite your priorities - having said that - my rule, for every RM you save on a watch, save another 2 RM for "contingencies"

always..what i do, the moment the money is enough i buy the watch immediately, if not the money sure go to other avenues or priorities..

I save for capital

the dividend paid for the watch.

When you save surplus cash on a certain grail you are eyeing, your mind is set for that goal.

No matter what uncertainties come along esp. when is a matter of life and death, you may or want to splash this surplus cash to remedy the situation.

But when the situation of another fancy thing catches your eyes and your emotion is set to acquire it, then this is where your will power comes into play.

A pros and con job. You will never achieve your goal…determination is important.

Yup, determination is very important, Priority always dictate the situation. (the usual advise)

Who cares, just spend the money or credit card to get yr watch now, who knows what will happen tomorrow, then slowly pay back the debt (the Gen Y advise)

Normally if you save up for watches, most of the time the funds will go somewhere else when the funds get closer to acquiring your dream watch.
Willpower is important.
Or there's always a way which is what I am doing now, "One In One Out"
Since we can only wear 1 watch at a time, if there are redundant pieces, just sell em off so that other ppl can enjoy and after selling, just add abit more to buy whatever tickles my fancy.
That's me, it doesn'y work for everyone else though...

The rule of thumb in your saving for your next grail:
1. The watch should not cost more than your monthly pay.
2. The watch should have trade-in value(most preowned watch dealers are willing to take back the watch at 85-90% of purchase price)
3. Be friend with the dealers before making the purchase
4. When buying using CC(credit card), ask the dealer to bear the service charge
5. Opt for CC with zero cost easy payment scheme(e.g. can pay in 12 months)
6. If you are clever, trade-in without cash involved

Saving for a watch is like saving for marriage....LOL, they will make you spend $$$. The difference is......with a watch you won't get nagged at........so if it is me i would buy a watch. Saving is better of course, try to buy with cash so to avoid credit crunch. Try if needs be get something with a long term desire and not just a fling.....

When I save till enough for my Grail and the next thing i face is torn between buy or not to buy...keep the cash for rainy day or spend it for my Grail?

Follow auntie Ros method... save when u r young... everyday save RM1300 for the next 50 years.. by then u can buy 10s if not 100s of high end watches starting with models from PP, VC and AP

Live for the moment. You never know what will happen tomorrow. Once you save enough stay strong and just buy what you want to buy.

What we buy only excite the Switzerland economy not US economy...I thk we shd start buying US watches to help them tide over the down turn LOL

now got a baby girl and new job, i allocate 10% of my monthly salary as $ for the watches...restrict to 1-2 watch purchases per year..
