Would like to know how much damage to your watch can you take before you get really mad.. I for one am fine with hairline scratches and desk diving scratches but i cannot stand to receive a ding to my watch. Hence everytime i walk past someone or near the wall, I would put my hand behind my back. However if the watch has a ding when i bought it pre-loved, i can accept it but i dont like to take 'fresh damage' to my watch. What say you guys on the matter?

I'm fairly cool with the little dings and scratches, I take it as a part of everyday use. However if I drop it or knock it against the wall due to carelessness and there is a noticeable chip or something, that would hurt :/

i purposely scratch my project watch case, crystal and strap to look old...
i paid a mat salleh to make my watch dial and hands look aged....
i bought aged leather to make its strap....

After a while, you will get use to it, but I still rub like hell if the first hairline spotted on my new watch, then my son will ask me, "why keep rubbing the watch, want to keep it shine"  :Laughing_on_floor: :Laughing_on_floor:

2 of my pioneer ORIS automatic watch was full of scratches at the steel band and one of them got a small ding/dent at the bezel. still they are very reliable watch for me. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

sorry to all that i can't show the photos of it as the watch is not with me right now. it is in my KL home.  ;D

will post it in watch gallery once i back home. :D

Used to bother me but nowadays I like watches with patina and wabi. The more beaten up the better.

I guess many can accept damage here and there on their watch. I am just finicky after all. What if someone carelessly ding your watch real bad, can you just walk away from it if the dinger just nonchalantly walk off like nothing had happened? Can you just walk off not feeling the slight bit annoyed? Why i mentioned ding is because to repair a ding, the steel has to be ground down to a certain level unlike a simple polish to remove scratches.

In short, just say ur grail which u bought brand new for a week and it got scratched or chipped real bad. Do you feel "it adds character to the watch"?

Yup, I can walk away... after I accidentally drop a gas tank or something equally heavy on his fingers...   ::)

Just read in another forum where the author asked whether  scratches adds character to your watch. I love the one reply where he mentioned," does scratches add character to your new car?" :Laughing_on_floor: End of the day, i still think the general consensus is to avoid any damage on your watch but accidents happen and we should not be too bothered by it.

For me, i'm so bloody fussy. Got one tiny hairline on the bezel can caused me sleepless. On and on try to rub it and pray that it can go away.

Just hate it when you taken an extra precaution not to get it scratch or what not, but it will soon happen.  :'( :'(

was like you once but it turn out to be very frustrating so i change my opinion on accidental scratches. Cant be helped and cant be avoided.

I feel that if I scratch or ding a beater myself, it's ok. However, if someone else does it, I get mad  :Scolding:

The worst part is that you won't be able to say anything. If you do, they'll give you a funny look and say something along the lines of 'It's just a watch'. Annoys me to no end. 

I do, however, like to keep my dress watches looking pristine. No point in dressing smart and then coupling it with a beaten-up watch ;)

A well-aged watch is a totally different matter. I love patina and it can make a rather ho-hum watch something to be truly proud of. It shows that the watch has a "pedigree"; a throwback to a time when things were better produced and watches were something to be handed down from generation to generation.

Dings and scratches really annoys me.. Just need to be extra careful. If possible, Change the metal bracelet to leather strap..  :) and wear the watch under the sleeves..
