Watch Stolen During Delivery
« on: July 18, 2011, 05:20:25 PM »
Hello fellow forummers,

I was wondering whether any of you experienced before watch got stolen during delivery period? I purchased a Bell & Ross from a seller in Germany, payment made via paypal. The parcel was sent out thru DHL Germany and delivered to my address by Pos Laju. I opened the parcel only to find an empty watch box. The box doesn't look tempered or re-sealed. A total disappointment after all the anticipation of the watch.

I've contacted the seller to request DHL for an investigation since it's covered by insurance and submitted a dispute claim to paypal. Pos Laju asked me to bring in the parcel for them to investigate. Fingers crossed that the insurance claim goes well!

1st rule of thumb is to make sure you chk the references of the sellers.
Paying by paypal was the right choice as they provide protection for buyers.
One thing about buying watches online is always ask the seller to declare full value and get it insured to full value.
Watches are tax free in Malaysia... the most is you give duit kopi rm50 if customs ask too much.
Never list the item as a "watch"... use terms like "Professional timing device" or "Mechanical Timing Device"
Normally would not get the attention of would be thieves...
As for your case now, opening a dispute with paypal is correct but I was just wondering how on earth did the parcel fell into the hands of poslaju when it is sent thru DHL? Aren't DHL suppose to courier the watch the whole way ???
Weird...  ???
Terrenceterrence "seriously, i think buying a watch for it's secondhand value is like getting married and thinking about divorce at the back of your mind."

I personally know the seller and I won't doubt his honesty. The watch is fully declared and insured til its full value, thank god for that. I think the fall back is he did state that it is a watch in the parcel as "BR Watch".
Why did it got transferred to local post instead of DHL is one thing I'm really curious as well. I ask them and they said some parcels are 'sub' to Pos Laju to deliver. I'm pretty disappointed that using a reputable service like DHL can occur such a mishap. And since there is 2 delivery company, I bet the investigation is gonna be pretty messy.
Money lost is one thing, but getting the Type Marine is one watch I've been longing for.

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate incident. Thought DHL is a reputable express delivery co. Wow,never thought that they would sub it to local post.

Hopefully the whole process wont drag too long, after your long wait for the watch. Must be very disappointed.
Cheer up!!!

Poslaju uses fedex,DHL etc as they do not have their own carriers.I once used poslaju's EMS service and found out that they are actually more expensive than going directly to DHL.

So I just got back from Pos Laju Glenmarie, filed a complaint and they will liaise with DHL Germany on this matter. The few points they highlighted is :

1) The parcel's weight difference. The parcel weighed 0.5kg when the sender delivers the parcel to DHL and when it arrived here it weighed 0.3kg.

2) Pos Laju repacked the parcel with their seal tape on it. According to them,Pos Laju is not supposed to re-packed it or have any Pos Laju seals on it for such consignment. If the parcel arrived damaged/torn/tempered etc, they will notify the recipient to self collect.

It will take a couple of months for them to investigate and at the mean time the sender has demanded an investigation by DHL and claim the insured sum.

for your info.... DHL is german national post.... so it is normal for its insured registered airmail to be delivered by pos laju in msia!

i hv few dhl packages from german to malaysia....
all no problems, some insure delivered by pos laju, some registered delivered by post man, some i collect from post office!
except once it was delayed, due to custom open the parcel due to they cant read the declaration in german!
then they re seal the item. but the pam is still sitting well in the box!!!

:Praying: :Praying: :Praying: wish u get back ur full amount soon

Only the seller can claim the insurance on my behalf. I have the DHL slip which states the sum insured and value of watch. DHL Germany and Pos Laju Malaysia is the ones who will do the investigation.

Lucky for you bro Chrisyen, unlucky for me my grail has fell to some thieves.

I was advised to make a police report here on this matter. At least as a gesture of showing that this matter won't rest easy.

That is why I hesitating to start purchase from the net, and struggle sometimes, I know the price is cheaper compare to local source, but worry exactly what had happen to you. For those expensive watch, I would rather buy it locally, even with some premium, at least the watch safely rested on my wrist.

Do keep us posted, at least the investigation result

Sorry for your lost

i believe when it comes to online purchases, make sure it is within the $$$ range that you are willing to "lose" in case such things happen. as such, i would prefer to see it, touch it, smell it before i part with my money on luxury stuffs like watches unless these are "small change" to certain individual  ;)

I guess Omnipotent said it very well, is like the price to pay for a good deal. Buying overseas certainly imposes high risks but like in my case, I've got no choice but to do so. I've filed a police report this morning but I believe there is nothing much they can do. I need the report to dispute my credit card charge claim. So for now, I'll just have to wait for the outcome investigation DHL, Germany and Pos Laju Malaysia, and Paypal's dispute claim.

Sometimes, purchasing it overseas too cannot guarantee that the watch is genuine, not unless from AD there itself.
It is heart-breaking to learn of such thing, hope you will recover your lost...
