Help! Seiko Monster ~20minutes a day?
« on: July 03, 2011, 08:15:37 PM »
Dear all,

My Monster was running fine for a couple of months until it would suddenly stop at random, after I put it in front of a subwoofer overnight.  ::) I sent it to two watchsellers (one, who I thought is a veteran, in Kampar, and another in Kepong), who both said there was nothing visually wrong with the movement. They suggested a full service, which I agreed to (~RM70).

Now the Monster hasn't stopped after 48 hours, but in that time frame it has gained at least 40 minutes (~20s fast per hour).

Are demag devices so uncommon in Malaysia? :(

If you put it in front of a sub woofer, which had strong magnets, then most probably your watch is being magnetized.

A good watch repairer may able to do the job - demagnetized the watch.

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

If your dad can do it why send it in to a watchmaker in the first place?

Apparently it's not magnetized, Gauss reading very low..

Is there anyplace competent I can send it out for repair? Preferably somewhere near Kepong area..

Thanks!

It's a grey market from Singapore ebay.. I don't think Seiko will repair it, will they? Guess I'm out of luck.

The only thing I haven't tried yet is to let it wind down and restarting it.

Alright, I'll let it wind down and smack it up.. If it still doesn't keep time I'll send it in.

Thanks very much for all your attention and advice to a newbie!
