Project Watch Must go On
« on: June 29, 2011, 06:05:38 PM »
Guys Guys....please take a few steps back and hold all your horses.
Please do not make hasty decision. We do not need to make any conclusion today.
All we need to do is NOT to let this Project Watch simply slip away and not see the light of day.
Too much efford has been pour in to this. Too much interest has been generate. Too much positive vibes has been shooting out by this forum.
So Guys...we are all adults here and lets sleep it over. Please please do not just let it go.
I plead to all of you....please please do not turn your head and back away from this special Project Watch.

I do sincerely hope it will come to fruition but since I'm not the boss...
All I can do is hope that minds will change in the coming few days...  :-[

Bro Hobbit you have been championing this project from the begining.
I for one would like you to continue with it and make it happen for those who love horology more than anything else.
Bro Hobbit please do consider.

Other Bros, please show your support here for Project Watch.

Thanks Guys!

Sincerely!

I am all for the project to go on. If that does happen, do let me know and my name will be on the list again as I am definitely interested   A pity that it ended the way it is. It should be resurrected again..waiting for it to come to fruition.

It is a sad ending tbh...as d other bros stated it has been bringing much interests ( be it not to the expected limits  ::) ) n + vibes.. My opinion is that..could / couldnt this be put in sales thread if the "hawking" n warranty is the main concern? Wgat do you think Hobbit? Just my 2 cents..anyway..its up to the mwf owners n Hobbit who put up the idea..

Friday,

It is not just the question of hawking (for the lack of a better word) or warranty, but more a question of responsibilities, trust and abuse (of privilege). Just like I don't allow commercialism on my blog, I must appreciate that I have taken the privilege here a tad far. This is a great site with a great bunch of people and I do enjoy the chatter here, more as compared to other forums. I was blind sided by the fact that perhaps I could get the watch I liked, that I ignored the very feel in me that this is not the right way to do things. There are other ways of achieving the goal, but I took the easy way out.

So I hope you can understand why I decided to withdraw the project watch.

Hobbit,

Duly noted n respected my friend. But to make things clear to you..i myself was well aware that the main reason u brought up d idea cause the manufacturer wont make just 1 one watch for u as u mentioned this very very clearly... upfront...i joined the bandwagon cause i like ur proposed design n the cost to be incurred plus our very own MWF members project.

Well everything happens for a reason...

The way I see it,
There is no easy way out... even when you came up with the idea of the project watch and the design to resemble a certain 70s diver,
You might see it as an easy way to get a watch that you want as there is no manufacturer willing to do a 1 of 1 piece...
In your view, doing a project watch while roping in enough ppl for manufacturer to start producing is an easy way out, but i see differently as I think you are taking the more difficult route.
Any followers of your blog will know that if you can source all the parts, case, hands and dial, you will be able to assemble the watch yourself... you are that good.
So, to bring in more ppl by starting a project watch is in my opinion, the tougher way out.
But that aside, what you suggested for the project watch did get alot of positive vibes...
I did not know that the bezel design is an homage to the Rolex watch... My guess is most did not know as well...
I must admit that it's disappointing to see this end as it has gotten my interest so far as I dun care if the watch comes with warranty or not...
It's just a stock movement and I'm sure any watchmaker worth his salt will be able to rectify if there's any problems...
I understand it's a huge responsibility to get the project rolling... of course there's a question of trust and when there's money involved, ppl will find faults.
But you have my thanks for trying to get the project going.
It was a good ride...

Somehow i felt like its my fault that the the project watch being canceled  :HammerHead: :HammerHead:, I just started to follow the topic and suddenly Mr Hobbit decided to pull off the plug on the project. I dont even have the opportunity to put my name on "THE LIST". what a shame, just the thought of owning a limited edition forum member watch has made me drool. i personally think this was a good idea, maybe somehow this project can be resurrected in the future :Praying: :Praying: :Praying:. Cheers to the follower on this topic

We have agreed on Mr. Hobbit's design and ETA stock engine. MWF moderators, please give consent to Mr. Hobbit to put MWF logo/initial on the watch. Mr. Hobbit, please proceed with the project...

hanz079, mozo72, rusminag,

It is no ones fault or no one is to be blamed on this project. The owners, moderators and administrators have been very very supportive of the project from the start. Sometimes things happen.  :)

It is not as simple as putting the mwf logo on the watch.

consent to allow this project watch to have the logo of mwf = the mwf is bearing the legal responsibilities of the project watch

but

mwf hv no control of this project watch in - design, costing, payment, quality control, after sales, warranty, etc

personnally i hv completed many 1 off project watches.... some 1 piece some with our frens here, i also tried to make 100 pieces of 1000m wr dive watch here in mwf, but this 1 failed due to lack of numbers. so believe me, one day we will have an official mwf watch. It may come very soon!

[moderators and owner of mwf are sad and disappointed with the outcome, hence we are meeting tonight to discuss bout this issue]

Would it be a problem if the watch does not bear any logo or wordings that would tie it back to MWF but can be understood by the members as a project watch by MWF as opposed to a watch for MWF? In that way, there would not be any logo, no wordings but a limited number engraved unto it and maybe if some wording is to be put on the watch then perhaps the watchmaker's signature or initials? Just asking...

We should make the "unofficial" MWF Watch. no logo n everything, but member will know its our forum limited edition watch.  :shocked1:

i been reading posting on this subject. I did not participate as I am not sure how much would it cost and fear that in the end of the day, i couldn't afford it..So i remain silent , waiting and hoping for good news and planned that if it is economically viable for me, i would join in the very last minute possible...

Very unfortunate the talk come to end. In fact i think this could be the second or third time such project being discussed in details in this forum

Kudos to those who has been relentlessly championing the subject. It takes a lot of effort and i could only imagine the frustration.

Hope someone could work out something but till then lets hope and pray....

Now...i have an idea. I know you guys would love a very nice , unique swiss made MWF watch... But that cost a bomb and not easy to manage (project wise) Just wondering , what if we make a simple (probably a quartz or even a digital) watch. It dont need to be stainless steel even...maybe just a stupid plastic watch. With MWF logo. and ensure it sell at say RM 100.  and get the cost of the watch less than half of that. Then we donate the profit to any charity thing. If we have 100 people buying we can have plus minus RM 5000 profit. On the day we want to give the money to the charity selected, we all come together as a group. Showing people out there what we are as a group. The plastic watch, will have no value on the street, but it will be remembered as the unity symbol of our group....People from all walk of life...all races, the wealthy, the mid income, the average joe....The mercedez guy, the beemer guy and the proton guy...the panerai guy and the g-shock guy....all unite for the same passion and interest we have.....a cheap watch also a way to show as a group...we dont discriminate people base on the value of the watch....all are welcome to be part of the group so as long you have the same passion like the rest of the group....cheap watch ...expensive watch...japanese, swiss even if malaysian made so as long it is original.....aite ????

hahaha....just my 2 cent.....

Mwf is gaining it's popularity... Bcoz of u all!!!

I remember when I participated in wus few yrs ago for the laco wus le project watch...
Wus, the alwiz rank no 1 in the top 100 watch site, started with this wus le with only 55 pieces...
It took more than a yr to complete due to design issue...

I can understand y hobbits halt this project...
I myself completed a few project watches... Some single piece, some 2-3 pieces with our fren here...
U all can search for the old thread in Mwf n watchbus...
When Mwf started not long u too try to make our Mwf project 1000m wr watch...
After spoken to watch manufacturer... They r kind enuf to help me to do the rendering base on my draft drawing... But for order, min 100 pieces
I got 40+ ppl interested here in Mwf + few from fren who bought watches from me in Singapore n fren from Taiwan who bought my project watch...
So without the numbers... Nothing can b done!

For those who join us earlier, we also discuss on another Mwf watch... In the end 2 many voiced asking for different design, from divers to marine to pilot... So it never work this way.

After yesterday meeting, soon Mwf will conduct a survey b4 Mwf start to run a project watch design
at same time Mwf will talk to supplier, manufacturer n watchmaker...

B patient!!!

Yeah, thing about project watches is that everyone has very individual taste...
It's impossible to satisfy everyone...
And when a design do not go a certain way... ppl will opt out.
And the numbers will dwindle...
Then we will notice that we cannot even hit minimum...
The way I see it... if there's a manufacturer willing to make a 50 piece edition without the cost being high... it will be the most realistic.
50 is the magic number...

I have no problem going for an official or unofficial watch project. Next round i'm in, didnt notice the list. I really appreciate the effort from Hobbitt.its not an easy task nor it is something done on a whim. Really salute.
