Anti-magnetic watch, practical usage

I read about this anti-magnetic watch withstand up to 80,000A/M, then some are like 4,800A/M. Now I can, of course, read all the tech data and figure out myself. But I am looking for "lay-man" or rather "lazyman" explanation.

For our daily activities, exposure to magnetic stuff normally involve like car speaker, TV at home and etc., Now can a watch with 4,800A/M withstand those magnet or I need certain range A/M to withstand???

Anyone mind sharing???

1) the watch with 4,800A/M can withstand these Electric motors, loudspeakers or door closers' magnet? or greater is needed like 80,000A/M?

2) Or the other way to look at it like 4,800A/M can only withstand those freezer magnet and not those big magnet like the one use in the car speaker. I am not sure

A bit of hit and miss I guess. There are reports that the magnets in the handphone speakers is enough to magnetise watches. I do believe that those big magnets in car speakers and even those in your home entertainment system can have an impact on your watches. Thus never put your watches on top of your stereo speakers. However I have read that some people work work with MRI have accidentally got their watches 'scanned' with no problem.

On the plus side, it is easy to know if your watch has been magnetise. It either runs very fast or stops working. More good new is that it is easy to demag your watches. Most good watch guy can demag the watch for you.

Well...the ipad2 has magnets around the edges. So, if u carry yr ipad2 with yr watch wearing hand...perhaps it may or may not magnetize yr watch ..

hmm, intersting, so if I have watch with anti-magnetic of 4,800A/M to cope with daily magnetic stuff around us, then I don't need a watch with anti-magnetic of 80,000 A/M or even anything greater than 5000A/M.

So, those watches with higher A/M number are meant for those professionals dealing with high magnetic field???

This if from my personal experience with my IWC Pilot Chrono 3717 which is antimagnetic but not sure to what A/M. I have a Bose wave system in my room and I did tried putting the watch both on top & in front of the speaker while playing the system just to experiment. Result is no effect, watch still running +5s a day consistently since I bought it.

Eric, yr one sure boleh la, if not mistaken, should be up to 80,000A/M (correct me if I am wrong)...BTW, a lovely piece too

Yup, IW3717 protection to magnetic field is up to 80,000 amperes Per meter.

Some of my watch is antimagnetic but i still doubt the watch that had date window will had same AM capablity as fully enclosed watch... Eg sinn 657 and Rolex millgaus.

I will try to avoid magnitise the watch if possible.

I do not have past experience but I just feeling unconvinced the AM capability will be like what they claim when there is an opening on the date window, I dont mind to test it but the problem is there is no good watchmaker around they willl be able to demagnetize by watch to the condition before it was magnetize.

Unless they had somekind of trick to stop the leakage into the movement then I will be convinced. I know they had faraday cage around the movement but what about the date opening part

I put a magnet on my old tissot PR 100 before but it was ok.
