Would you trade a 112 for an Explorer ii?
« on: June 06, 2011, 05:48:12 PM »
Thinking about consolidating my collection and my Pam 112K is seriously not getting enough wrist time.

Should I trade it for a Polar ExpII? or 14060M non COSC + 112K for a 16523 gold dialed Daytona?

There have been alot of rumours saying that Unitas based Pams could be quite collectible int he future if OP decides to go all out in-house and I might regret selling my 112. On the other hand all i see is that the used prices of base and historic PAMs are taking quite a beating.

what do u guys think?

My current collection of watches consist of:

1. Pam 112K
2. 14060M non COSC
3. Sinn 857s
4. Wempe Zeitmeister Aviator
5. Tudor Prince Chrono 79280

Are the prices of the historic model taking a beating right now? Perhaps it is correction time.

Anyway, coming to your question, I would keep the PAM00112K and trade the Sinn and the Wempe for the Polar Explorer II. I won't trade anything for the Daytona cause I am not into the Daytona.

well pre-owned prices are not exactly firing through the roof. infact i see it going below SGD5K for a 112.

unfortunately those 2 are the only ones i can't sell because it's b-day presents.

factoring in the price increase, i still see the prices of current BNIB 112 remains the same as the asking of BNIB 112K a few years back although the MRSP has gone up.

I guess the PAM00000 still commands the price? I guess the logo on the dial matters. As for me, I am still out on the logo, be it the zero or the five. Well I have to say that the pre-loved asking price for the historic model is still the above the retail price of what I paid for my historic collection Panerai.

Well considering the Sinn and Wempe are no go items, I would sell the PAM00112 and get the Polar Explorer II. But I would go for the GMT Master II instead. Why? Well at least you can tell 3 time zones. In the future, you could go and get another PAM00112 or the zero or something else from Panerai.

Yea. Historic PAM prices are taking a beating at the moment. The issue is not that there are no buyers. Those who love PAMs and can afford them have PAMs already. Those that love PAMs and cannot afford them cannot buy from you. While those who dont like PAMs will never buy them. I remembered having to let go my PAM176 and PAM183 at lower prices than I anticipated and top up a fair bit to get a SS Daytona. The only advice for PAM is to get the automatic as people now prefer them over the handwind versions. However since the 112 is the only PAM in your collection, i would let go the Tudor but that is just me since the Sinn and the Wempe are 'untouchables'. It is better to have a collection consisting of Rollies and PAMs.Honestly, I would keep all and save for the Polar Explorer II or GMT II if it were possible. Just my 2 cts.

 best answer as to why i see the prices are dropping.

haha like i said, CK77, now it's a good time to pick up a PAM.

been spring cleaning the house and browsed through my old ROM photos. Was wearing the PAM when I signed my freedom away . still remember tailoring the sleeve on the left half an inch wider to accommodate the watch

then it kind of dawned to me that I might miss it terribly if i look at the photos again and not to mention that if i keep it long enough, the size of the PAM might come in handy 30 years down the road..................when my eyesight becomes poor and I can read time without reading glasses  :Laughing_on_floor:

sigh ..just feels bad that the taxman is coming next month plus I have to pay back the rebates that I got from the bank 2 years ago when i refinanced the house. the money is more than enough to get an EXP 2  :'( that is really heart wrenching  :Laughing_on_floor:

The items that are untouchable must be released at some point in our course of life cycle.
Unless you have someone to hand over those items, if not at the end of the day, the items would just collecting dust..

I will not hesitate to recycle those presents / household items given to me on occasion, etc
I have also had those ‘old’ gold item given to me on special occasion not to mention also those long serving awards (watches / not my taste) etc…

It may be painful and reluctant to dispose these ‘items’ in the first place (sentimental value…blah..blah). But at the end of the day, this is not we wanted. What is most important is the item/s we wants is smiling at us,.

As is, without much emphasis, I would and have convert those ‘old’ gold items to gold bar ready to cash out and (watch) trade-in for another item that is / are smiling at me at this present moment. As the saying goes..’ To able to lift things up and release it when appropriate time comes’. with no regrets.

My 2 cents tells me to go ahead and dispose / trade-in / sell off and purchase to my heart desire. Time waits for no man (or rather woman)

We live for the present, plan for the future where the past is already history.

I would suggest u put all the watches u want to let go for sale. You might not able to sell all ur watches because the offer price is not what you would like to transact. Probably, out of 3 watches, for example, you might only able to sell 1. Let the market decide for you and keep what not sold.

thanks for all the replies. really appreciate the views given.

kind of make sense. just reminded me that I've inherited some serious chinaman chain and pendent bling from my relatives that was lying forgotten in the jewelry box. would fetch some serious money in the current market. well............. trade that off for another type of bling? hahahah

i dunno how to help you as i don have Pam or lolex. But what i can say is follow your heart desire.

I am sure there will be buyer if you sell your watch at a given price. Just have to be patient about it.

I can tell you the price of pre owned watch down under is really hi (even you deduct gst still hi) compared to other place but somehow the dealer able to sell them with no problem.

I got a GMT Master 2 and a PAM 164 (my dad actually). Both are equally solid and prices seem to be stable. I suggest going for the PAM especially those with 2 strap. You can change straps according to your style and it wouldent look boring!!
