Date Roll over for ETA movements
« on: May 18, 2011, 11:02:45 PM »
Just curious about the date roll overs for ETA movements.

So far Rolex movements are quite precise in their roll over at midnight +-. my 7750 and Valgranges A07.111 round 2330

So how about ETA 2824 and 2834?

Thinking about picking up a DayDate 2834 watch and jsut wondering how is the the roll over of the day and date for the watch.

My Oris BC3 with ETA 2836 changes sharp 12 but my Omega Seamaster 300 M chrono with ETA 7750 changes at about 1.

My Oris TT1 changes at 11:40pm when new and a month later advanced to 11:30pm. This was my 1st mechanical watch so I was quite unhappy at first but soon found out this is a norm for ETA/ETA-clone movements.

The Hulk changes right on the dot  ;D

My tissot on ETA 2834-2 change right on midnight. Wondering why expensive ETA 7750 cannot do the same thing? ???

Was thinking about picking up a Tudor Cali DayDate 76200 after losing the bid to get a Galaxy Express Speedmaster.

So does the day and date of yours changes on the dot?

Wondering does it matter to you much when the date changes?
Is it a factor in your next watch purchase?

yes and no. I am okay with the date not changing on the dot because the date aperture is quite small and negligable. but the day aperture is very large and takes the space of width of "ten minutes" because the days are spelt out in full.

if it does not change on the dot then it would be kinda funny to have [day Wednes] or [ursday Wed] in the aperture.

WOW the Galaxy Express Speedmaster. It would have been cool to win it.

As for the Tudor, it does change on the dot at 12.

Looks like better off with a quartz this round Terrence?
Since you want instant day change also.

I think some high end mechanical or GS can only achieve this. i think 90% if not more also has a gradual day change.

Yikes, I never even bothered if the dates are out of whack like in Feb or months with 30 days let alone watching when it rolls over.
Kudos to you guys. I just make sure I don't wind anything within +- 2hours of 12 o'clock.

yeah the Galaxy Express was eventually sold for USD2650. I was only willing to go till USD2500. Saw another one listed in a pre-owned shop in HK. maybe would check it out if i am in the neighbourhood.

good to know about the day change. thanks a bunch  must be fun waiting till 12 midnite just to look at both of the day+date flip over  :D
