IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar
« on: May 01, 2011, 10:29:26 PM »
Dear members,

Hi I am new to this forum and I think you guys a doing a great job with this forum. Actually I am considering getting the IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar Ref 5021 with blue dial. I have some questions that i hope forum members here can help me.

1. I am actually curious as in why IWC perpetual calendars are priced much cheaper compared to other brands. Also I read somewhere in this forum its because IWC is using modified ETA movement and not in-house movement. Can someone clarify on this? Thanks.

2. Can someone provide the retail price and also after discount?

3. Finally, what do you guys think of the watch? Is it a good buy? You can post your comments here even if you don't like the watch. :)

Thank you in advance.

Thanks kaxen for your input. I thought this thread is dead after so long no reply.

I also understand that the price is high. What other watches that you can recommend around that price range? Or if you have a budget around that price range, what watch would you buy and why?

Thanks.

Iwc perpetual calender module is a great great invention!!!
The 4 digit yr is cool... Go for it if u like it

moser Pc is the most less display on dial
much better finishing on movement

personally I won't buy any Pc
1. No money
2. Too difficult to maintain
3. Even setting the date is troublesome, a winding machine is recommended
4. I dun need that function, setting date every mth can b joyful... An annual calendar mayb better
5. For that price I will prefer to get pp, ap, Lange / go...

This is my grail... so yes, buy it!!!!!

7-days power reserve mean you can afford to only molest it on weekends... ;)

Thanks guys for the feedback. I just got back from a AD in gardens. He told me that the blue dial PC has a manufacturing defect where the blue color will 'lat sek' (color will come off) after certain period. He mentioned that IWC have recalled the models and will launch it again once they have solved it. I am really curious as in how come such expensive watches have such lousy quality or is it the salesperson don't know what he is talking about. The AD only has the ardoise dial model with the single moon phase.

Now I am still considering the amount of money going to be spent on the watch whether is it worth it. Most of my friends (not watch enthusiast) thinks I am crazy to spend such amount of money. Lol. Maybe I should just buy the port 7 days automatic and keep the money.

Anyway will keep you guys updated. Thanks

If you're talking about IW 502121, I think it's the best value PC money can buy. It is using the IWC 5000 calibre base with the 7 days power reserve.
Size is just right 44mm plus it's easy to sync everything only by using a single crown. The year digits ends at 2199 but IWC provide the module in a tube when you purchase it. The double moonphase is also another extra feature to your advantage and you don't need a winder as it is 7 days power reserve which for you to view sharing the same sub dial with the date. Nice folding buckle in solid white gold, I think it's a great package. The retail is RM 132,000. but they offer a good discount even at IWC boutique in Pavilion. I saw they had one at the front window about 5 days ago and I also saw the Big Pilot Perpetual in Rose Gold which is Limted to 500 pieces it using the same movement but bigger 46mm. That is a nice pice to have if you like big dials. Me and another friend from Singapore wants gather some guys here who are IWC enthusiast, just to gather and talk about IWC watches.

Actually both piece has it's uniqueness, only different appearences. As for the RG , yes! I can say the contrast between the Red Gold case with the black dial goes very well, and the P is 12k cheaper. It depends for what you're going for. I say 'Red Gold' because this is the new case which is with the new 5N Rose Gold and the previous models are with 4N RG.

Platinum is 12k cheaper than the Rose Gold version? :o
Sorry, I thought you're refering to the P = Price. Normally we say PT as Platinum. I meant the RG is 12K cheaper then the WG.

Hey, there. Wow!, you've been to the boutique. FYI, I've just sold that piece on the 7th May, he was the third person who bought the Blue Dial in IWC Pavilion. But don't worry there's many more to come. Please dropby anytime , we look forward for your visit.
