New Arrival: Rolex Explorer 1 Ref 214270
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:22:26 AM »
This piece refused to let go of my wrist when I tried it on at the AD. Had to take it home.

Thanks for looking.

Finally...this time your resisting powers lasted long after we first saw it ya haha.

How are you liking the matt dial versus the old one?

emmm I thought the minute hand was shorted. If it is the 39 mm, it does not look that bad. Anyway, congrats. Wear the watch with good health.

Hi Peter,
I've learnt the hard way to let the demand cool down so that I can get a more favourable entry point.
The new matt dial is a very nice change from the old one. Liking it more and more.

"to each his everest"

Thanks Ivan.
"To each his Everest" is a nice slogan tailored for the Explorer 1 due to its historical links to the conquer of Mount Everest by Hillary and Tenzing.
My favourite Rolex slogan is the evergreen "A crown for every achievement". For this particular watch it is all the more relevant since I acquired it to mark a milestone in my career. (Any excuse will do to get a Rolex  ;) )

Nice watch. Always wanted one but it is too small for my wrist so i cant pull it off nicely.

Thanks GMAC,
The new 39mm size is not that bad. Give it a try at the AD and I'm sure you'll have a more favourable impression of it compared to the original 36mm size.
By the way what's your wrist size?

Thanks Hobbit,
IMHO all the commotion about the new Explorer hands is much ado about nothing. Once you have it on your wrist you won't even notice it.

Looks matching on your wrist, good grab.

Thanks brompton.

Hi GMAC,
Wow. Some of us here would kill for that kind of wrist size. Do you pump iron? You may have to acquire extra links to fit your wrist.

Danny, congrats to your new purchase.

Thanks David. It lists for slightly more than RM18K.

I agree. It does look good. Correct me if I am wrong but the Arabic hour index are without lume right?

You're right that the Arabic indices are without lume. Rolex drew inspiration from the Blackout Explorer 1.

Congrat, Rolex is in my road map to get in the future, but glad you got one now...

I think the hands issue where everyone is "complaining" about is a good thing.
My thinking is Rolex had many stock left so just use it on this version first.
When a new series or new batch comes out, it will be longer?
Then Danny would have a "rare" batch hahaha...

Thanks Derek. In Rolex's inimitable style the 214270 has been updated tastefully while maintaining the unique design features which make the Explorer 1 such a classic.

Hi Peter. Here's hoping that the current "thin hands" batch will become totally collectable in the not too distant future.

Hi Chris,
Either you have been buying too many new watches recently or your capital is all tied up in real estate investment.
