Buying from the net
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:20:00 PM »
Just wanna start a thread on all the scams and bogus deals we encounter on the net so that we can share our horrifying / close call / loss event experience.

I've been buying regularly on the net and even I don't, I tend to track the deals which sometimes seems too good to be true.. and just wanna see what's the outcome...

Case 1:
User XXXXXX (117 Feedbacks)
100.0% Positive Feedback
Member since Aug 27, 2009 in Thailand
Location: Bangkok , Thailand

On offer: Bell & Ross BR 01-94 Steel watch

Asking Price: Starting Bid USD 0.99 cents

What smells bad about this deal:
1) The picture is a stock picture, means it's not the picture of the actual watch selling.

2) 117 feedback - he's been buying feedback, how do u know? he's been buying these ...SAVE 3 to 5 percent on Ebay buys 14k IPHONE HDTV etc (#170609858403) that cost 0.06 cents to buy, these are professional Feedback sellers on the bay, their sole purpose is to sell feedback so that the con artist can gather very good feedback within a short period.

3) No Feedback on Selling items

4) asked about details of the watch - very dodgy reply. I marked the item under watchlist, and check back 3 weeks later ....

5)What Happen: The watch was "Won" by a poor soul for USD 1,400.00, this is what happen: "I pay money to seller but seller not answer and send item to me. dated 13th April 2011. Now this seller disapper and the bay classified him as: Not a registered user

the actual pricing of buying in the net cannot be so low from the normal retail price. If it happens to be too cheap, u certainly have to suspect a dead fish there...............

I have been acquiring my watch from the net, so far so good.....most important, is the international warranty.

i tried manytimes online purchase but so far was ok. seller can start the price as low as they like. but is a free bidding so you can bid but dont forget mayb seller will use another id to raise the money to the actual value he want to sell. I got manytimes experience on seller sell n bid in the same times. but cant blame anyone as this is a free trading.

to check the genuine o honest seller o not. my advise is try to avoid to deal with middle east, asian, n african seller if can becoz there is alot con case happened.

i generally wont participate in a bid-situation kind of purchase. If i have to buy a watch on the net, i would get it from an online store. Logically, no one would set up a bid of a genuine item to start at such a low price unless (a) its a con or (b) its a fake. Just what i think and my stand on the matter.

Actually I started to check the online purchase in the last 2 weeks, any advise for the payment, which is safer? Paypal or Credit Card?? If the watch is not what they claim, can I still return? Do they refund the $$$? Which courier service to use to avoid stolen or delay....Appreciate the advise...

Better to use paypal. As to whether the you can return the watch if the watch is not what they claim, that could be a bit hard to do, so do lots of research before buying a watch online. For courier services, if it is a malaysian site, poslaju has not failed me before. Internationally. i'd go with fedex.

Thanks mate

I'll be browsing through that.

This site is a real poison! My love for watches has been rekindled by a site called MWF! Daym....

No idea.
But in the early days of Ebay, Indonesia was the only country that 99% of the sellers will not ship to.

I think that would be a generalisation. However there are issues with the Italian postal system.

so it is not the seller problem, but their postal? even using the courier service???

apparently some ppl in postal service will steal the parcel and contents. Some will throw away the allocated item for them to deliver. I read that some ppl resort to making the parcel look unattractive to prevent em from lay their hand on it.

I suggest for all the risk your taking if your buying watches in 000', better get it in person or overseas if you can find cheaper ones there. Warranty might be a issue also. If your buying one below 1000, just go ahead :)

Warranty should not be an issue unless the serial number has been erased (assuming the watch is serialised in the first place). The standard advise, buy what you think you can afford to lose and always buy the seller. And check and check and check. It is always nicer to be able to buy 'physical' but sometimes, the opportunity does not present itself.
