How long is too long?

Most of us have more than one mechanical watch in out collection.
My question would be, how long do you let them sit unworn until you wind them up again to wear them?

The area i stay in has numerous break ins so i usually keep my more expensive watch in the bank.
I only have 1 expensive piece which i wear regularly for bout 4-6months before i put it back in the safe.

Luckily the cheaper mechanical watch i have at home are all handwind so i can wind them up without wearing them. My expensive ones all are automatic.

Reading this now you know why i prefer handwind watches and maybe no date as well.

So for those who has many mechanical ones, how often do you rotate them?
Is lets say 6months of non use bad for the oils inside the watch?

I keep my watches in the bank safe. So my turn around time is about 9months to 1 year. I don't know if that is bad for ur watches or not. My guess is yes since it is mechanical and the oil will "dry up". But I can't rotate them evenly enough.

Btw, u can handwind ur automatic watches especially expensive ones :) I don't see how this related to the manual and automatic watches in term of hand winding.

Everymonth, I'll bring about 12 out from the bank safe for wearing between me and my wife and rotate like that. So Some of the watches could be in the safe as long as 6 months.

And that is also why we still keep a large number of quartz cause some days, u just wanna get up and go...

LOL good one.
So far i have none with that long power reserve.

Its just a coincidence that my higher priced watches are auto so at any given time i only have one out of the bank.

Any negative effects to hand winding auto watches?
I know its ok if i wanna wear it after the power reserve is out but if i just wanna do it like "starting up a car" and not wear.....handwind i still think is best.

Ha ha ... the funny part is, sometimes I looked at my wife's watch.... the time is correct but the date is all out, too lazy  ....... who wants to be a slave to the watch, it's just something u collect and enjoy....

i have my Oris for daily use so the Hulk stays at home all the time...my parents are at home most of the time and my area don't have many cases of break-ins so i don't have to keep the Hulk in the bank...furthermore, i need to kiss him goodnight before i sleep every night  ;D

rolex recommends their watches to be fully wound once a month if not used.

Regarding winding automatic watches:

IMHO, this will not cause harm to the watch, as moden automatic movement have a slipping clutch (or a sliding bridle) attached to the mainspring to prevent over-winding.
An example is ETA2836. This is practical since if an automatic watch is fully wound, it will still attempt to wind when worn (otherwise there's no use for a watch winder then).

Perpetual date watches have to be constantly wound - else you'll have a hard time adjusting the date, moonphase, month, year etc.

Q1. Is this consider wearing them daily "technically"?

Q2. If yes, how often do i need to send them for service?

Couple of days for each watch generally. I keep most of my expensive pieces in banks so they get rotated less often
