I for one is a fan of all Jap movement.

Back to topic, IMHO Swiss made with Eta movement can never go wrong, as it has been tested and proven. Whether it is swiss made or Japanese made movement, in the end one has to ask if he/she likes that brand/model? If the answer is Yes, go for it.

For beginners, tissot is a double tumbsup watch. Make sure the watch is screw down crown type.

It gives better water resistance for tissot basic watch.

This following article gives a good explanation about the methods of keeping water from pouring into a watch via a crown.

A watch can have more than 100 meter water rating even with a push in crown if the manufacturer incorporates a number of gaskets that stops water from entering. Case in point is the Seiko's numerous Seiko 5s with 100 meter water rating without the need of a screw down crown; a number of Steinhart's 300 meter rated watch follows the same concept as well as as other notable brands.

In fact, the best example of all is a Casio G-shock. No screw down crown or pushers but works exclusively on gaskets.

Mine is 20yrs already. It got water got inside the watch , I only took it to watch Smith to repair after one month. Only its hands got water stain marker. It's still very good till now.

Tissot is popular among youngsters, not a bad choice for a beginner

so far i've been to a few Tissot boutique, the salespersons are informative & professional, retail price & discount are pretty similar

I dun know, I actually prefer the design of Seiko over all these entry level Swiss Watch Brands at similar price point.

However, I will consider mid range Swiss watches whenever I could find a heavily discounted one. For example a 75% off Jeanrichard which is just a little higher than a 20% off entry level Swiss watch.

If you are looking for a quartz watch Tissot is a good start. If you looking for an Automatic, for the price I would suggest to top up a lil bit more for Longines.

Agreed, got bored with my touch expert bracelet so i change to leather.. Looks even nicer haha.. Definitely a good start if u want to collect swiss made watches.
