Omega Speedmaster
« on: February 14, 2011, 08:59:24 PM »
Having sleepless nights deciding which to buy:

1) The Speedmaster Broad Arrow GMT (3581.50.00)
    or
2) The Speedmaster Co-axial Chronometer (311.30.44.50.01.002)

Any suggestions from the sifus here will be appreciated.

Thanx guys for the response.
As I am quite rough on wearing watches, I did not consider both your recomendations since they come with either plastic or Hesalite crystal which tends to get scratched easily.

No worries. Hesalite can be polished using toothpaste while u can't polish sapphire easily.

Yup, for rough wear, hesalite is a better choice - more durable. Where sapphire cracked easily. Believe me, sapphire do also scratched / chipped, IMHO

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

sapphire crack easily? how you wear your watch?

sapphire is much harder and very difficult to scratch unless u use diamond or ruby to scratch it....
it also not easy to chip as compare with those plastic, mineral crystal.......

sapphire is harder and provide much resistant to scratches but it will crack like egg shell if the force is great e.g. hitting hard again a "sharp" edge of the SS railing. it shatters into sharp splinters. OTH, hesalite is tougher therefore it is hard to break and it won't break into splinters.

I had my Tag with Sapphire crystal since 2000 and to date I found practically no scratches.

IMO, the GMT looks more attractive and the Co-Axial Chronometer looks a bit plain but it retains that old classy Moonwatch look.
The price difference between them is less than RM1,000.
So HEADACHE!! HEADACHE!! :'( :-[

Haha.. Well, I am more towards wanting to retain the old classy looks. Look closer to the iconic Moon watch..

Both the watches are out of stock and will have to wait till mid-March.
Most likely will decide by next week.

Just came back from the AD.
They had made a mistake on the price of the Broad Arrow GMT.
The price difference between the two should be RM3,200.
I initially had come down to the GMT but now have to reconsider with this bigger price difference. ??? ??? ???

There is always the 3573.50. Which is the moonwatch in sapphire (both front and back). It's a little bit more expensive than the hesalite model (around 3k) but it is more durable and comes with a see through caseback. I like mine and so far it held up really well.
