How much to spend???
« on: December 31, 2010, 09:27:42 AM »
Hi guys,

More like want to get a general idea on how much u guys are willing to spend on a watch based on your income. I know some can only spend few hundred bucks for a watch and some are willing to spend more than ten of thousand dollars.

Take this example, monthly income RM5k and you're willing to spend 20k on a watch by saving up - 4x of your monthly income.

So hope all of u guys can join in and share your opinion...

Let me start first... i used to think RM3k for a watch is considered expensive or in a way luxury. But now, I'm looking at watches 2x of my income which I considered keeping it for very long time. But till now, I'm still hesitating to pull the trigger!!!

Maybe awaiting for the right time and right piece to come!!!

For me.. I will only buy 1 or 2 good watches and hopefully it can last me a long time. On the amount.. well, I would say not more than 10k for me.

Before I bought my 1st >rm5k watch, i hesitated and thought hard for a long. after that i am comfortable buying watches of that price range. then came the next price barrier, same thing. hesitated and thought hard for a long time before pulling the trigger.

interesting topic...

to me, until today. i still can't break the barrier to hv a watch or to spend on a watch that cost me 1 month of my income. i guess, it is just different people looking at different thing about a watch. justification is just too subjective in this case.

but, i personally hv one very close friend, he is willing to save for 1 year.. to get a watch worth many months of his monthly salary.

as long as you still can makan and tidur nyenyak, did not go max on your wallet, all other committment are accounted, then one can spend on their choice of watches.

spending on watches will only come as an 'entertainment' fund set a side after the above statement IMO.

cheers

always buy the one you really want. even if it means saving months, years for it.

a few treasured pieces beats having tons of watches that does not have much wrist time.

I'm actually very curious about this too. Drooling over the Rolex Submariner, which the AD in KLCC said was like RM25k or so (just window shopping, lol). But I see most of the comments here are like 5k+- for a watch. I see most of the pictures in the "daily watch picture" thread being rolexes, though, and I'm sure they aren't 5k+-. So wondering if I'm missing out something here, lol.

Cheers.

RM25K retail, get a bit of discount...  :)

Actually spend what you can and get the best you can afford. Save and buy the watch that you really want. I use to buy new, but now buy pre-loved. So almost like new, some used but cannot get new and some you get at a bargain.

I agree with Chris

I regretted of getting my 1st expensive watch-Fortis. Sold my shares just for the sake of owning a watch but two months down the road, those shares i own eventually shot up to the price equivalent to a PAM351.
Ever since then,i am so eager to save up n work harder to get more money to buy my dream watch.

I would say that in general, nowadays I would spend max. of abt 10k for a watch.

But I must say that this is a very subjective and individual issue and at the end of the day u wld get different answers from different ppl on why their max limit is such and such. The best is to read , scout the forums, talk to sifus etc and make up ur own mind of what is your own max amount based on the criterias u deem important. e.g. design/brand/resale value/technology/features/etc?

Hi guys...

I think $$ is very subjective. So, spend whatever you are HAPPY with. But never say regret when you already spend. Never look back.

Happy new year.

I think if you still have doubt ... dont buy!  To me, watches are luxury items and should be last on your priority list.  One should get it after all the necessities are taken care of.
