« on: November 27, 2017, 08:18:22 AM »
Hi guys,

I just purchase one tudor black bay model79733N few days ago. The watch everything seem fine, until when i set the time to 11.50pm and let the time pass, why the date will not change? after the time run till 12: 03am, then i unlock the crown, and the date will suddenly turn to other day. (by the way, the date running fine if i didn't set it manually)

Is it normal or my watch got problem ??? please advise ??? ???

Hi, not sure about the mechanism, but my Pelagos changes its date on 12.05.

A watch does not necessarily changes its date on 12am sharp and 12.03 seems normal.

Maybe other sifu here can help you.

Assuming that I assumed correctly from your description in that the date changes at 12.03 am, then I don't really see a problem there. Rule of thumb was normally to avoid changing the dates manually between the times of 9.00 pm - 3.00 am as it could potentially cause a misalignment of the gears for date changes. So far, I have been fortunate that the dates on my Tudor watches change instantaneously at 12.00 am. There was once that an Omega that I have, changed the time quite some time after 12.00 am (30 mins late or so), and a quick trip to the SC had it adjusted back to 12.00 am under warranty. If you were concerned about yours changing at 12.03 am (I wouldn't be so concerned), you could take it back to Rolex SC and get them to adjust it accordingly.

For high end watches, it advisable to adjust time to slightly pass 6’oclock as this will neutralize date gears mechanism in the watch itself. Date changes past 12.03 midnight is well within normal.

I am almost a recovered watchaholic, but last checked shows only 70% recovered. How?

Try not to touch the watch and let the mechanism run past 12:00am until 12.05am on its own. Ordinary mechanical watches require some time for the date to change unless it's a high end complication with instantaneous jumping date change mechanism.

You are so lucky not accidentally damaging the movement by manually change the date at 12 am. I don't think SC will cover for such that damage.

It is normal, if your watch change date at 1203 am. I'm pretty  sure Tudor MT5612 has a instantaneous date change. It is Not like some movement etc ETA 7750 which takes some time to complete the date/day change.

I think it is more how accurate the watchmaker assemble the hour hands of your Tudor for the first time.  Firstly, they turn the crown till the date change ( 1200 am)  then attach the hour hands, minute hands and second hands. Might be the crown turn is slightly not well synch with date change mechanism, then the hour hands attachment was made maybe at +-1203. That's why your watch doesn't change the date sharp at 1200 am.

That just my opinion and for me there is nothing wrong with your watch.
