Lost in transit - a watch buyers worst nightmare
« on: August 28, 2017, 09:40:40 AM »
To those of you that have bought watches on-line from overseas, do you have any horror stories to share when it comes to non-deliverables? What did you do when it happened? Any positive outcome that came out of those experiences?

I lost 3 silicone straps last month .
However it was my mistake as i clicked "free shipping" instead of "registered mail" .

i have lost straps quite a few times, also by free shipping. I guess in a matter of time our country will be in the list of "do not post to" ..

Watches are duty free. Do customs charge you 6% gst?

duty != gst. Customs will charge you 6% based on your parcel value.

The first happened a few years ago. I bought a LumTec 500M-1 via Amazon. Registered Airmail via USPS. Didn't arrive. Good thing i bought via Amazon, as it gave me two options: cash back or a replacement. Unfortunately, only the LumTec 500M-2 available. Decided on the replacement (the M-1 was brushed stainless steel while the M-2 is PVD stainless steel). Three months from start to final conclusion.

The second time happened just a few months ago (June2017). Bought by eBay a Seiko Cocktail Time. The Company was based in Singapore. Paid via PayPal. Free mail package. After 21 days, the traking still shows it to be in Singapore. The seller was using all kinds of excuse not to look into the matter. Complained to eBay but they advised me to go to PayPal as eBay has a cover limit of upto RM750 per transaction (transaction was RM1.5k). Complained to PayPal. After a week of investigation, the verdict was given to me. Within 3 days money was deposited back. The whole proceed took 2.5 months from start to finish.

Moral of the story: (1)make sure the trading platform is reputable (Amazon is the best. Full refund if there's issue. eBay has a limit of upto RM750 per transaction.)
(2) make sure you use a reputable payment gateway. (PayPal provides 100% guarantee. Not sure about visa/mastercard or Amex)

If in doubt, don't commit unless you are willing to accept a possible loss.

Normally, case like this and vendor is not using any private courier-DHL, FedEx...Etc. I will go to post office to do a check see if there is parcel for me, before I complaining to the vendor/seller.

Phew! Finally, everything is settled after more than 3 weeks of painful waiting.

The main cause is Italy Post just sent my parcel to the different part of the world , or it could be they wrote our country name as "Malesia" in Italian and no one know what country is this. :o

Might sound weird but things like this are a possibility!

Always opt for courier AND insure it (if insurance is an option).
