I've been there- adding watches into my collection but found myself predominantly wearing a couple of pieces only, so I went on a consolidation phase and cleaned the slate, then starting adding pieces again. I had my quantity>quality phase, micro-brand phase, big cases phase, titanium watches phase, bronze watches phase, buy-for-mods phase, quality>quantity phase, etc. These days, I am more selective with my purchases and limit my watches to the size of the winders in the house. Therefore, some watches were purely for catch-and-release (just to look see-look see and update my watch blog, then off they go to real owners whom could give them wrist times); and for those that I intended to keep on, I would flip a piece from the existing collection to keep to the quota. Worked (somewhat) so far...
