ROLEX - Confirmation of Model & Rough Estimation of Value
« on: March 29, 2017, 09:38:23 AM »
Dear All Timepiece Gurus,

Hi, everyone. Good day! Is there any guru here can help to tell/confirm me which model is this please? This watch is more than 30 yrs old. And also roughly how much is it worth?

Besides this, would like to send it to a shop to do some cleaning on it. Any trustworthy place in Klang Valley that you all can recommend? Or any watch/jewellery shop will do? Or any DIY technique that we can just do it ourselves at home (if there is any)?

Thank you very very very much for your time.

Regards,
fcb4ever

I've never seen that kind of bracelet or bezel before. Very much suitable with the linen dial though.

It's most likely a Rolex 1803 day date with bark finished bracelet. I would strongly suggest that you send it back to the Rolex service center in KL.

RSC would be ideal for authentication.

it looks like 18078 or a 18028 Day Date with Bark bracelet and Bezel (ive got the diamond version of it 18308)
You would need to remove the bracelet to see the model and serial number (which you could then tell the year) it has a hidden clasp band so my guess it would be 1988 up...... I dont think Rolex in Malaysia do the verificationas anymore, i believe they stopped doing it Jan this year.... take it to a reputable AD or a grey dealer that deals in rolex and they will confirm its authenticity

As far as value goes  it will depend on how much stretch is in the bracelet and weather its a single or a double quickset movement

Visually, yes - Rolex did make the DD with bark dial as well as bracelet. There are a number of models with bark dial, but far fewer with bark bracelet. This has long been discontinued. With regards to authenticity, best to bring it to RSC at Menara Dion. It is a beautiful piece.

This is a  Rolex day date president 18038  or 18078 bark finish.
Come with only a single quick set.
The 18078 mostly come with Stella or tiger eye dial
Price around rm40 k(subjective) depending on the watch  and the completeness of the  set.
Regards.

Dear All Gurus,

Hi, everyone! Thank you so much for your time. Very much appreciated! Noted, will bring it to RSC at Menara Dion for servicing.

By the way, this is a random gift from someone and I might consider trade-in for this watch as it kinda seems too goldish & shiny for my age (I'm 30yrs old this year).  In case my comment on its look seems silly and "mm sek fo" to any of you, I do sincerely apologize about it. No offence yea. It is just my personal preference/opinion only. Is there any reputable/trustworthy place u guys can suggest for trade-in? Only got the watch itself. No warranty book or whatsoever.

Thank you.

Why the lugs look different from most of the Rolex watch? They look like someone has grind the edge and make them more like what I have seen in recent Tudor Diver Watch...

However, Day-dates easily worth USD$12k to USD$20k+ in preowned condition for your information.
