  • Success. It's a mind game.
If we could get a Daytona Ceramic at retail today, I am sure that many of us would scramble for it. And as long as the demand supersedes supply, retailers could stand to gain from the premium to be charged. The ball would be on Rolex's court on how to exercise the enforcement towards zero premium.

This just means there will be a lot of under table dealings. The stock will only be available to 'preferred customers'. This is all a PR exercise to quell the criticisms leveled at Rolex from prospective buyers of their sports models. The only way there will not be any premium is to ensure availability of stocks in all the ADs or boutiques at any time which is also highly unlikely.

I hope this pulls through. I have been to a few ADs in Sabah for GMT Batman and submariner and was told that they have a year worth of waiting list in addition to premium and they have preferred customers to entertain. Agree with the rest the question is more to implementation/execution. Despite the setback I am still looking for GMT master batman and submariner. Love the two watches after trying them in Dec last year in KL. Too bad I didn't jump in to make a purchase that time. Regretted my decision.

this for sure... they are not going to forgo thousands of dollars if they can get away with it.... there will be no way of proving otherwise

ya. maybe they sell you the datyona, hulk and other latest model at retail price but you need to bundle with 2-3 pcs of non sport model.

Interesting. It should be easy to enforce, just ask the customer to tell Rolex how much they paid for it from xx date. It'll all be in the receipt. If they withhold then Rolex doesn't send them new stock.

This is merely shifting the profit from AD to individual/grey resellers.

Don't bet on it.  Where there's a will, there will be a way. So much profits at stake

NO problem at all, hold the stock and sell premium to the grey dealer, end user still pay premium
as long as demand is there, price will not going down, many are willing to pay premium

If Rolex are serious on price control, they should direct sell to end user without middle man. Order online and within 24 hrs DHL courier

So in the end watch blogger SJX said Rolex will heavily enforce this is not going to be true la. Or could it potentially be true.

If Rolex is really sincere in its statement, the simplest way to walk the talk is by flooding the retail market with sport models in comparison to others, till the demand is balanced out. I doubt that Rolex will do this, its just their plain publicity gimmick.

As long as there's constant demand for their popular models, even with inflated premium prices, I doubt things will change around here. Willing buyer, ever-willing seller....

Was at pavilion rolex and the sales person confirmed it. She also say in order to buy the Daytona, one must get a gold watch. I was like WTF? Better practice selling at premium then.

In Dubai, for SS watches like GMT Batman, Green Sub, etc you buy it at retail with some discount. There is absolutely no premium charged.

For Daytona SS there is a waiting list and if it is your turn, you pay the retail price.
