Question : instant date change for Rolex calibre 3186
« on: January 30, 2017, 09:32:08 PM »
My GMT Master II instant date change at 0005 hours, is this normal for Rolex calibre 3186? It is a new watch (~4 months). I am thinking of to send the watch for calibration..

Thanks

I don't have a GMT Master ii so I can't compare on the exact same movement. However, I checked the Caliber 3135 as used in my Sea-Dweller 4000, Submariner Date, and Datejust, and could confirmed the date change was precisely at 12 a.m. If you were concerned on the date change tolerance time, am pretty sure that you could send it back and Rolex would put it back on good time, all pun intended. And you would further get the Rolex green leather pouch FOC after the servicing.

My Explorer II model 16570 having the 3186 movement too but  date change instantly at 2355 hours if I manually wind the minute hand passes 2355 hours.

If I wait the watch running normally without manual interference, the date change instantly at 2359 hours and 58 seconds.

Here are the photos taken just now.

I just did the same test , if I manual wind the minute hand, the date change at 0000 hours, and if I let the watch run itself, the date change at 0005 - 0007 hours..

Just checked with Rolex shifu just now, the GMT master with 3186 movement date change is not instant.

To test it probably, let the GMT hand point at 6 o'clock position, and hour and minute hands points at 2359 position with date on 31st. When it becomes 0000 , then after second hand turns 2 round (meaning at 0002) the date change must be completed.

Thanks for the info, my current setting for GMT hand reference time is at GMT. So I need change my reference time in order to test it.
