Let's start a new topic here. Just my opinion..
Personally I will not. Gen Y may not appreciate what we have now. They may have their preference. And making them to own a watch from their hard work is probably a right way rather than inherit from daddy :-)
I used to owned a Rolex sub 16613LB. First bought in 1996 and I sold it to upgrade for other model. Personally, I no longer want to own a beloved watch for another 20 years. A feel of "own before" and "wear before" are probably meet my satisfaction IMO..
what do you guys think? No watch No Life :-) Cheers ..

The watches I have are purely for self enjoyment. If I don't enjoy any of them anymore I'll sell them off. Those still in the collection will eventually go to the kids. I guess it's up to them. If they want to sell it so be it. I'm dead anyway.

I agree with bro Meor and would echo his sentiment. I am from Gen. Y and i would have loved to inherit some vintage sports Rolex-es. I do admire these pieces and would like them in my collection but they are not easily available. I think it boils down to interest. If your next generation do not appreciate luxury watches, then you can choose to sell and change to another piece and/or enjoy the money. If I am on my deathbed, watches would be the last thing on my mind.

You guys are fabulous. I choose to reward myself for the hard work and time spent on career. When we are no longer in this planet, we can't see. So enjoy ourselves with what we have now ya..hahahaha..

I specifically bought one watch the year my son was born and another when my daughter was born. I wear these watches in a way that I hope would somehow make my kids remember that I wear them. And when I pass these watches to them, I will also make it known to them that I bought these watches the year that they are born in.

Personally I think we shouldn't inherit our watches to the next generation, because we should encourage them to work hard and get theirself an own watch. Or should only inherit goods to them after they've succeed in some ways, just to let them know things doesn't comes easy and should value it.

I came a across a case where a 17 yrs old boy sold off a luxury watch at very much below market price, of which the watch was a birthday present from his relative. Selling simply for the reason of no interest and knowing that the watch worth a few grant. From that case onward, I will only inherit if I see my next gen has the interest, or else no point.

Would need to educate the next gen what are the values of vintage watches prior to inherit. Ensure they express the interest, otherwise, they may take it as easy come easy go.

I saw a friend wearing a tt sub recently, inherited from his late uncle, which got me thinking, we should buy what we like and enjoy wearing, and let the next generation worry about themselves..

Enjoying timepieces are for those who enjoy and understand horology. Love the dials, movement, case design and history of particular models or design. So, as for me, collecting and enjoying it for more to personal taste. Not collecting for next generation.

However, sometimes these hobbies do "spill over" to the kids. These kids will learn unintentionally from their fathers. And, they will start to have their own collection (May be cheap quartz) at the beginning.

Later, when they understand about the values of these pieces, maybe you can pass some or all of your collections to them.

Anyway, purpose of collecting is for the collectors to enjoy and appreciate these timepieces.

watches that are able to hold value would give the buyer the liberty to decide at a later time if it is intended for the next generation, or simply to enjoy until its time to sell
