I have always found the final price is always lower if you pay cash. Even if you exclude the cc surcharge a lot of places will make you pay, if you are a good negotiator, you will always be able to get a lower final price with cash.

I have always found that in Malaysia, paying by cash gets me that extra bit of discount, although boutiques and ADs are getting more and more on the radar these days so they tend to give the additional discount only to repeated customers whom they had a sales-purchase relationship with.

Recently, I returned to UK for a fortnight and having time to kill, of course I would lurk to watch establishments while my better half go on her fashion hunt. I was looking for a 116613LB and an AD brought a piece (reserved for another customer but he has yet to collect it) out from the vault. All brand new with stickers and boxed, unmolested. I have always been a card user in UK, and I could count with my fingers if I was asked to pay by cash instead during my years of staying there. Yet there I was, after we have agreed on the final price, the SM casually asked if I could pay by cash (no Sir, I don't walk around with £9k in my wallet) and his SA could direct me to the nearest cash machine; which if I was willing to go through the hassle, he could give me an additional price assistance. To cut a long story short, I had to return the next day with the cash but the good thing was they were willing to help me process the VAT refund in advance and I bagged myself a great bargain.

For those travelling to UK anytime soon, look out for bargains there. The SM said that they were expecting a price revision soon, and I did noted quite a no. of customers (Chinese and UAE citizens mainly) buying Rolexes as if they were just picking up Seikos in basement stores  :o

I've always paid in cash. Room for negotiation. Some AD's (gardens) have even told me no difference if cash or card but when it comes to the crunch I get a better price.

Haha same here. But I do admit that lugging around a large sum of cash does feel a bit scary when going to make a purchase.

Also being there counting the cash on the glass cabinet feels like a twat.

That awkward silence when the salesperson is counting your cash when you make payment (and it's all RM50 bills)
