This was the topic of discussion with a couple of my collector friends. I've never paid for any watches with a card. Discuss please. I don't get the concept of maxing my card limit for the sake of investment.

I think depends on the price of the watch? Just more convenient to pay for a watch that costs 10s of thousands with a card.

I would pay with my card just to collect bonus points. Then go home and pay for my card right away. That way, I don't owe the card and I collect points which I can redeem and I don't have to carry tens of thousands of dollars around with me. The financial institutions are there for you to make use of. Don't let them make use of you...do not pay minimum payment, do not buy something you don't have the cash for. Watches are a hobby, not an investment...

No additional charges. Even ADs don't mark up as they realised the convenience of card transaction (minimise cash management and theft risk)

I have always paid by credit card and had not experience any additional charges by AD ever. I always used the Islamic card as the card offers cash rebates which considered an instance cash discount.

While notice that grey watch shop did impose sur-charge on the watches that they are selling if you choose to pay by credit card, I will never pay for the watch by credit card in the circumstance.

This is what i do ... Using the card for convenience, not for the debt/OD facility.

Personally think that more convenient to pay with card, don't feel comfortable carrying large amount of cash to shop.

Normally will negotiate the final price at AD, if amount is more then credit card limit. Will bank in the deficit to credit card account before going back to AD a 2nd time to finalize purchase through credit card.

Unless the AD charges extra with CC... I see no reason why one would not use the facility. It will be silly not to actually. Don't see why there should be a discussion about this...unless you are the type that likes to carry bags of cash to show how minted you are...then I have nothing to say.

Does AD's still practice an additional discount for cash purchases?

Basically they pass the savings from the CR card companies to you.

The ADs in town that I know don't do that anymore. They encourage cashless as this reduces their cash management requirements (security, insurance etc). I suppose the smaller/independent shops may offer that additional discount.

very much agree. make sure you have enough cash then use the card to enjoy the benefit then pay it off immediately and not swipe first then think later. Further more i think some banks even offer to have 12 months 0% that will ease the burden a little bit.

that is very wrong mindset. watches are never an investment unless you are collecting the limited edt watches from big boy ie Patek's Nautilus anniversary model.

Better invest in share market or any other channel get better return then watches if you looking to invest.

If there's a possibility to use card, then it would be the best way. These days most merchants are going cashless, because carrying a bulk of cash anywhere requires more work and of course risky.

Even for transactions between individuals I would opt for online transaction upon COD.

But if your question is about paying by credit card then go for monthly installments, I wouldn't suggest that. Watch shouldn't be a liability.

i think its pretty inconvenience to bring so much cash to shop. Afterall you also need to pay pack your credit card when the statements come

My practice would be deal at online instant transfer. Safer and convenient. CC could be a burden if you not well manage your financial
