Why Do So Many Watches Use The Same Fonts?

A lot of watches have Arabic numerals. How and why did this come about? Whats wrong with other fonts?

Arabic numerals forms the numbers 0 to 9. As for fonts used, it can be in any fonts, as long as it is easy for the user to read and make out the time. Some watches don't even have Arabic numerals on the dial, using shapes instead.

.. an addition to this, the purpose of using one symbol to represent a number makes it easier to interpret compared to using Roman numerals which may take the form of two, three or even four symbols to represent a number

There are watch dial font type/design are actually patented.

I thought you are going to say anything like Serif, San Serif... or Verdana, Trebuchet, Calibri or Times New Roman... Haha
