Well this is a story of love and passion….
Back in 2010 , I fall in love with this particular model… Casio G-Shock G1200 (or its sibling GW3000 with radio signal receiver)… It sell for around RM 1.2k++ at most places. 5 years ago a watch that cost that much is not something that I could easily afford. Honestly, I didn’t make that much. And those day, a Casio that sell for more than 1k is not common (not like today I saw a few model selling for RM 6k and it feel perfectly normal). But i really really love that G... It is love at the first sight, it stay in my mind the way s** stay in teenage boy mind
To my surprised, in January 2011 , My wife bought this for my birthday gift. It is not cheap for her as well as we both do not have a good paycheque, but she did received good bonus that month…. With this watch I travelled a lot for work. I went to Germany, france, Italy , China and South Korea. It is easy to travel with this watch as it help me to check on local and Malaysian time at once. And being G, it is a very good everyday beater. Life is good and I love my G more than ever. We had lots of things going on together….too much experince to share here
Moving on, 2 years later she decided to further her study. She quit her job, as at that time I was doing quite ok, had my own business and a job as well. So she did apply for MBA and not long after received an offer from local universities.Unfortunately at about the same time, I had some difficulties, my business was not well (I thought it is going to be temporary) and she need to pay her fee to start her first semester. I decided to sell off my whole collections of watches and use the money to pay her college fee. Among others would be this G (the rest is couple of homages , Invictas and one Seiko - all that cost me less than 1k per piece) I have no regret selling those except for the G. It come with great sentimental value as it is a gift from my wife (and she gone through hell to get that good bonus). I send the watch to the buyer on 8th May 2013. I had rough years for the next couple of years. My business went completely Kaput… I am exhausted , running out of cash with piles of debt…things happened one after another and to a point I am totally broke and out of job.
Until recently, we both have completed our master (in 2015 and yeah I did my Master as well) and now we both working in quite a good company with reasonable position (and pay) . Not that we can afford luxury life (Panerai is so far off for now) but we can pay our debt well and have some to spare… Both our certificates helps in getting us in good position (Especially for my wife) … Now (that I have some cash to spare) , I suddenly feel the urge to get back that G… So I text my old friend who bought the G from me…and persuade him to sell it back to me and I am willing to pay the same price he paid. As for me , I don’t mind the wear and tear as the same would happen if I keep it anyway. And don’t mind paying same price as it would feel like he only keep it for me for the last 3 years. I was shocked..., he did agree. Win win for both of us. He can get a brand new G and I get my watch back.
So today (2nd Sept 2016), this watch arrived… back on my wrist…it doesn’t have much wear and tear mark except for desk diving scar on the bracelet and it still work like a brand new ..My friend told me he didnt replac the battery nor adjust the time...when i checked the battery is still in healthy condition and it only lose 1 and half minute ( since last i set it back in Jan 2011)… but surely it has one hell of a story in between….
Welcome back G…
