Dear all,  I am debating between these two watches to purchase. Zenith El Primero is an iconic watch with lots of history. But the Zenith Pilot comes with annual calendar complication which I would like to have very much. Eventhough the Zenith Pilot watch costs more,  I don't mind the higher price. Please give me your opinion on which one to go for and why.  Thank you very much.

  • Success. It's a mind game.
El Primero for its iconic design and historical pedigree.

El Primero gets my vote. For Pilot, I prefer IWC/Zenith Bronze.

Agreed, if it's your first Zenith then the EP should be your first.

If one of the main reason you want the Pilot is because of the annual calendar complication, you may want to look for El Primero 410.
So, with that watch, you can have 2 features that you want into 1.
In fact, that is the watch I am targeting!

Which size should I go for? 42mm or 45mm El Primero?

The 45. Due to the amount of stuff on the dial, a bigger frame is better for ease of viewing (especially if one's eyes starts to fail due to age)

The EP 1969 38mm ("Original")

The 45mm 2016 Ton-Up / Cafe Racer...

The Zenith EP is still relatively affordable compared to many other brands with in-house chronograph movement..

Thank you all so much. Is there any reason I should not buy the 42mm El Primero? Any other watches out there I should consider?

Is there a reason that I should not buy the 42mm El Primero? Any other watches out there I should also consider?  I have Submariner, Navitimer, Reverso,  Seamaster, Speedmaster,  MeisterSinger, Combat Sub,  PAM111 and Seiko Orange Monster in my collection already.

You know why you shouldn't buy the pilot? Cause it's an imitation of the IWC Pilot.

Having all of the iconic watches is a good thing. But could also make your collection 'predictable'.

Switch it up a bit and have something that you like just because you like it. Not because of reviews or what people think or resale value etc. Have fun :)

I respectively disagree with the notion that zenith Pilot is an imitation of IWC.
The history of Zenith pilot, according to these authors anyway, dated back to early 1900. Solid history.
