How do you react to your watch's first ding? and dings after
« on: August 17, 2016, 03:54:29 AM »
So I was having dinner last night, and while doing so, I placed my hands under the table and lightly hit the bottom of the wooden table, apparently because of this, the watch I was wearing got a small ding along the edge of the case. Its not really noticeable to the naked eye, unless you place it against a light you will see a small mark, I tried wiping it and all but the mark wouldn't disappear

Anyways just wanted to know how you guys handle first dings on your watches? I can't help but stress over it, but i guess it is what it is.

Thoughts on dings on your watches

Thanks!

Pain everytime I ding with my stowa. Then I slowly improve my evasive skill. While i dont mind much, I still pain everytime I ding.

But when I'm on my bronze diver (makara), I don't actually care.

This is a good topic.  I become really obsessed with every new ding for the first few hours, and then the first few days.  I would literally keep trying to find it in the right light and angle, wishing I hadn't done whatever it was that resulted in the ding.  After some weeks and months I hardly remember about them.

I felt lousy when I got my first ding. But the subsequent ones will appear and after a while, I learn to live with them. Gives the watch "character" so to speak. No two watches are the same after that, the battle scars are yours and yours alone...

I remember the first real ding on my watch. That was a Seiko many, many years back. I was more of a one-watch person at that time. I was playing with my son in the swimming pool and accidentally knock the watch against an angle. It left a small chip on the hardlex crystal. Eventhough its water resistance was not affected, it left an imprint in my mind to always be mindful of my (subsequent) watches. It was a good lesson as my subsequent watches were almost always babied after. I took pride in my watches' outlook and also since I was a serial flipper, the no dints/dents/scratches outlook on my watches ensured that my 40+ watch flips todate were normally fast and successful. I designated 2 main watches for outdoor activities that may required tougher demands on the watches- and the G-Rangeman and Hulk took the brunt of 'em knocks. The rest of my watches could pass off as showroom pieces. Even my sons knew that my watches in the winder were off limits for their playing, except for the 2 said watches.
