Rolex Submarine Ceramic None Date Compare Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch !

Rolex Submariner Ceramic -

1. modern interpretation of a classic and very iconic watch.  some prefer this modern look and some don't
2. Iconic because James Bond wore it in some movies
3. bracelets and clasp are good compared to older submariners
3. cost almost twice as much as the moonwatch
4. will hold its value over time

Omega Speedmaster moonwatch -

1.  Iconic because astronauts wore this watch to the moon.
2.  Still able to buy it with a heselite glass.  I think it's domed
3.  more affordable than a rolex
4. it is a chronograph
5.  42 mm may be a bit big for some
6. Manual winding

How about comparing it with an Omega Seamaster 300 master Co axial?

Yes moonwatch and subc are indeed very different. Subc is more comparable with the seamaster 300 coaxial. Personally, i would start with Subc and add the moonwatch later....

Spot on comparison. Both are great but its always great to start with a Rolex.

I am nitpicking here,

Rolex Submariner Ceramic -

...

5. More precise bracelet adjustment with Rolex's Glidelock instead of half and full links options for most bracelets.
6. Ceramic bezel compare to moonwatch's aluminum bezel.

Omega Speedmaster moonwatch -

1.  Iconic because astronauts wore this watch to the moon.
...
That's the selected truth used in Omega marketing material. The Watch the astronauts wore to the moon was 321 not the current 1861. In fact, there was a 861 calibre in the transition from 321 to 1861 used today.  IIRC, 861 was not used in moon missions but was used in spacewalk / orbit missions or probably none at all. Lemania 5100 was used in space missions by other countries.

Hardly use the omega's chrono function, Subc is more durable and practical

It depends on what you need in a watch. SubC is a great reference and so is the Moonwatch.

I agree that perhaps you should get the SubC first then the Moonwatch later. There's always room for these two together.

I got the Sub C and was thinking of getting the Speedmaster Moonwatch.  But 42mm is too big for me.  Thinking of the SpeedMaster Reduced as an alternative but alas......the Reduced is not the Moonwatch. :Blue:

Does anyone know whether they made the Moonwatch 40mm or below? if Yes, then I will have to search for a Pre-Owned 40mm or below Moonwatch.

The Moonwatch is more affordable and gives more bang for the buck for the price. It is highly regarded with watch pros and would be a good entry watch. People who own 6 figure Pateks will typically own the Speedy as well.

Rolex sub is iconic as well. Not my cup of tea though. Unless it's a vintage one.

Should be a reason why NASA chose the speedy over Rolex :)

Buy what pleases you bro. I do love the speedy but the feel of 904 steel just somehow turn me on more. Whether the Moon or the Sub, what matters is the vph of ur heart when u have it on ur wrist bro, knowing that it is urs  ;)

Both are great watches. While I don't have a submariner, I do own two other Rolexes and the Speedmaster Pro. I have personally tried on the ND SubC on my wrist for a week (switch one of my watches with a friend).

My thoughts are these...The speedy is a classic, a true classic. Any WIS would want to have these three watches, a GS, a Speedy pro and a Rolex Sub.

I baby my GS too much when I wear it. So I tend to be extra careful and very sensitive how I swing my left arm. Bracelet is comfortable and legible dial. Zaratsu polishing makes this a work of art more than a timepiece.

My Speedy...it's nice, it's light, it's timeless and it is so legible. Comfortable bracelet. However at 42mm, a little too big for my 6 1/2 inch wrist.

Rolex SubC ND. It is just solid. just the right weight, slips under the sleeve easily. Very legible, and with the glidelock bracelet, a winner in overall comfort.

So my vote goes to the Rolex hands down. If you drove a car during my teenage years(1990's), you would compare the Rolex to a Volvo. Tough, safe, solid and you will not baby it.

Hope this helps and good luck watch hunting. My advice, try them on first and see how they feel. I know that watch shops will not size the bracelets if you don't buy their watches...look around for friends who has the watches and see if they would allow you to try them...

Patrick

Bernhard Bulang gives a good review on the 114060 as compared to the previous models of sub and also suggests why this model may be a winner compared to the 14060 & 14060m. Take a look:

I absolutely love both those watches. If i had to pick one and budget wasnt an issue, i'd go for the SUB. it's something i can live with for a very long time. manual wound with 4x hours power reserve wont do for me

Other than the 42mm larger case, fully agree on the manual winding part, I have not owned one but tried it in the boutique, definitely not for me, ended up with a Speedy Racing at 40mm, Auto with high PR, Chronometer certified, sapphire crystal, with Date, more practical for everyday use.

So, my vote go to the Rollie... again, I'm a practical guy, so my 2 cents worth of extra advice is to get SubC Date.

Can anyone weigh in on the moonwatch vs the first omega in space? My problem with moonwalk is 42mm is kinda big for my wrist. The FOIS is 39mm just right. Any comments on the FOIS? How much Mrsp is the FOIS with the leather strap? If change to steel bracelet pay how much?

If the omega accidentally over winded, the repair cost must be pricey
