Newbie needs help
« on: January 03, 2016, 06:24:31 PM »
Hi everyone,

Just registered myself as member today. Can anyone advise how to put up ads for sale? I have a couple of nice watches to let go.

Thanks

Cal

Well this is funny, why must a new member achieved 25 posts first before posting a for sale ad? This will discourage new members from joining. Forum need increasing traffic to be popular , too many regulations will just slow it down.

Since I need another 20 post so lets discuss this...

FYI, this forum is here for people to share their thoughts and opinions on watches, as well as discussing topics relating to watches.

The for sale section is just an added extra benefit for members to Buy, Sell and Trade.

As to the 25 posts, its to make sure that the new members are here to share and discuss and not merely for selling purpose only.

If you want to sell only, there are numerous other forums and groups which are solely for the purpose of Buying & Selling  >:(

Since I need another 20 post so lets discuss this...

Let's say that you go to a gated community to visit a friend. You got stopped at the guardhouse and the security asked for your identification to register prior to going into the residence area. You kicked a big fuss and said that you were driving a posh car, wearing a luxurious watch, has a Datuk title, etc. At the end of the day, you could kick up as big a fuss as you want but there were rules and regulations put in place to protect both the visitors and residents.

In this aspect, a newbie came along and demanded to put his adverts on his pre-owned watches. MWF was a community for watch enthusiasts and we came here to chill out, make new friends and appreciate each others' timepieces. We all introduced ourselves, built our credibility over time, which then made it easier for others to trust us too. I am a serial watch flipper and I could share that MWF was a relatively safe platform for such flips and trades, because there was the in-built get-to-know-each-other and buy-the-seller-not-the-watch platforms.

If every Tom, Dick and Harry came in here just to flip their watches and then disappear, I am sure that we would see replicas or Franken watches here very soon, simply because they would have no accountability. People would come here, register a name, sell a watch, don't take responsibility, just re-register another name, and the pattern continues.

Heck, you didn't even introduce yourself properly in your first post. You just made it clear that you want to sell your watches. And you wanted to use the discussion on why we needed 25 posts prior to sale, so that you could then make comments towards achieving your 25 posts. We see that from time to time- you ain't the first. There would be some smart alecks whom come here, comments on every post with no-brainers like "Nice watch" on every single posts, and then proceed to sell their watches. Most members would politely ignore such members.

So if you were not keen to be part of the community here, could we gently point your way towards Mudah and other such touch-and-go sale platforms?

PS : I could have broken down the above long observations into 25 posts if I wanted to, but I believed that you would catch my drift. Hope you were a real enthusiast and would then enjoy your stay here.

Couldnt agree more.. but sad to see even the minimum 25 posting intention is met by some by posting comments like "nice watch you have there" 25 times.. huhuu..

See what is written on the top of the forum page.

" Welcome to Malaysia Watch Forum, a place on the web for Malaysian Watch lovers to share their common interests. All are welcome to sign up. Registration is free. "

NOTE: ' a place on the web for Malaysian Watch lovers to share their common interests '

Members are encouraged to share and discuss, so if you want to sell do go to somewhere like Mudah etc.

My reasons in a nutshell.

Looks like my last post invited a lots of feedback. Some senior members really taken time to enlightened me 'newbie' the culture around this forum, I think to summarized the feedbacks I received says I need to respect this forum, introduce myself first, use nice words, start small talks, built confidence with people I don't know and get accepted. Don't get me wrong, it's a good spirit- keep it up.

So when I asked why 25 posts before anything else, some members here may feel I'm being rude - just barged in and looking to get rid of my watches, well those are not my intention. On the other hand I really don't feel like starting small talks like some watch enthusiast here, as I don't know much about or have lots of watch collections to share. I just don't like to fake a topic and waste your time.

Anyway it's good to see a forum like this one where objective is encourage discussion on member's watches. Collectors are growing in Malaysia and sure of this forum too. You guys carry on....
