Pelagos Vs IWC Mark XVII Vs Omega PO
« on: November 30, 2015, 02:40:09 PM »
Hi all sifus,

I am torn among the following watches as my daily horse:

1) Blue Tudor Pelagos
2) IWK Mark XVII
3) Omega PO

Please shed some light, thanks...

Pelagos all day! The new one with PELAGOS writing on the dial has the new in-house movement, ceramic bezel and light weight titanium case and bracelet. I've tried once and the watch is a solid purchase. You should try em', the blue pelagos is beautiful!

No complaints about my blue Pelagos so far. If anything a little plain compared to the diff variations of omega po out there.

My personal preference in this set (I have handled all 3 recently) from my favourite to least:

#1: Pelagos
#2: IWC Mark XVII
#2: Omega PO

I like the Pelagos for it's completely unique design and I like the hands.  I find the Pelagos easier to read and I can tell the time from a quick glance.  The Omega PO is a good contender but I feel there are too many variants.  However, Pelagos is very tool like in appearance and some people find it boring.  Note that it's also darker and less shiny than either the Mark XVII or the PO.

If you are mostly wearing business attire I'd say the Mark XVII and PO might look better with a suit :).

My vote remains on the pelagos, basically you can really wear it in any ocasions! Put the resale value aside but among those three, pelagos have the highest resale value incase you are stuck up with cash :)

still prefer the old pelagos, the latest pelagos comes with too many wording look messy for me, the new movement are yet to proven the reliability so i'd put it aside

if you were to go for dressy watch, go for IWC, thin case, easy maintain and superb looking

if you were looking for sporty watch, go for Omega PO

in this case i choose omega PO > IWC > Pelagos

:)

Which PO? If 8500, my personal pick would be the PO followed by the new pelagos (a very close second).

Would only go for iwc mark xvii if i could get a mint preowned at a good price.

Of the 3, the new Pelagos Blue probably provides the best value. Titanium case and bracelet, 500m WR, an in-house COSC certified movement, a good pedigree and priced around RM16k I think..

I've yet to own the IWC so I would reserved any comments. But am a fan of both the Pelagos and PO, so just my 2 sen. Pelagos is very toolish, and it was my go-to watch for an extended period of time. It's light, low-profile, and very much under-rated. For circa RM17k, you get a lot of watch for the money paid. The PO is also a handsome watch, but with more bling. It's the gentleman's alternative to the Submariner. The weight is substantial on the wrist- not necessarily a bad thing, and you could get better discounts from Omega ADs compared to Tudor's. Well, in better times anyway- these days, the watches' prices seemed to be going northwards as Forex goes southwards.

Price wise...I'd go with Pelagos. For the price, I'd get a watch with an impressive movement. Having said that, the titanium case with brushed finish gives it a toolish feel and regardless of how you look at it, speaking from personal experience, it lacks the versatility to pair with a suit. For an all-rounder...I'd go with the Omega Planet Ocean 8500 but for that price, my personal opinion and/or advice would be to look at pre-owned Rolex Submariners. The IWC Pilot Mark XVII would be something I get after I have chosen either the Pelagos or the Planet Ocean.

Thanks for all replies. My work attire is mainly tee and jean, so pelagos suits me perfectly, rite?

Here is my opinion, keep in mind people have different tastes.

For me, IWC Mark XVII might be too dressy for t-shirt and jeans.

I think with t-shirt and jeans you want a classic non-dressy aviator or a dive style.  This means Pelagos and Omega PO.  Omega PO is a bit more blingy which means it can be more flexible if you want to wear with a suit.  My Pelegaos is my daily wear and I wear with jeans and t-shirt often, I think it looks great.  I have worn it twice to formal suit occasions and I am happy with it, but I do think it's a bit bulky in that situation.

You should try the watches at an AD and check yourself out in a mirror.  Don't be shy about bringing a friend to take pictures of you with different watches (and even poses) if you want, the dealer won't mind ^_^.  At the end of the day it's what you like and you think suits your style and taste.

Pelagos came up slow & steady in my heart; I'll pick Pelagos if you want stainless steel bezel, IWC Mark XVII if leather strap.

If this is going to be a daily watch, it has to come with a steel bracelet. And if you were to get the IWC in a steel bracelet, then it is good to go. I would buy a leather bracelet to spice it up a bit when you want a little change. It is a versatile watch. I have had the pleasure of owning the 3706 and 3717. Had them both in steel and bought leather straps to change it up a little. Loved them to bits but eventually needed a change in my line up. Kinda regret selling off the 3706 till today. But what the heck. All in all, I do think that the mark 17 is a wonderful watch.
