How much is too much? Rolex sifu's
« on: November 05, 2015, 03:37:35 PM »
Hi guys!

Newbie here both in terms of the forum and watch collecting in general, earlier this year i was given an iwc portuguese chrono as a bday present from my parents. I've had the watch for a couple of months and to be fair it's been a love/hate relationship. On one hand i've always appreciated the iwc brand for its subtle and discrete nature. To the ordinary man, it sounds like an ordinary watch. However, IWC can still turn heads even for the most seasoned of watch collectors. However after months of wearing the watch i just cannot handle the wobble of the valjoux 7750 movement, as a result i've sold it and now i'm in the market for another (i have even pm a couple of you guys in this forum)! One of the obvs choice that i am considering is a rolex sub (date or without i have no preference), i was shocked to find some of the prices quoted to me by dealers with many of them asking for 22k and above for a sub with date 2005/2006 model! I was wondering if any of you sifu's could shed some light as to what is reasonable and what isn't. For argument sakes let's just take the rolex sub with date, is 22k overpriced? (just for extra fyi my budget is ... 22k) Also as i am a newbie i am not sure if i am allowed to post this, if it is by any ways in violation of your rules pls feel free to remove it. Thanks!

Its a bad time to come into the preloved segment for some brands.. i know the private dealers tarik harga & expecting foreign dealers to take it off them due to forex working in the foreign dealers favor.. as such, i would suggest you be patient till you find a deal you can be happy with

Yes that seems to be the case, people all around the world coming into malaysia to take advantage of the ringgit. Thankfully i am in no rush, but still, wrist feels very lonely.

it makes no sense cause a few year old preowned Sub C ND is around RM23k-24k and Sub C Date RM25k - RM26k. Well it is what it is and only because of the laws of supply and demand.  Don't forget this year 1st April there's GST and 1st October was Rolex price increase.
