Is Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-010 Blue dial a good buy like Rolex sport steel model?

Please elaborate "good-buy" because it could mean the watch is, worth the money for the material and handiwork provided OR good investment / retainer value. Personally, I think it is overpriced but it retains its value. Though the quality is good, more refine than rolex but I don't think it is better nor as tough as rolex sports watches. Yes, rolex calibre is bulkier.

Hello, thanks for the reply. Sorry, just to clarify that good buy here means for keeping the value and if required, easier to sell in future for good money.

So you are referring to retainer and investment values of the watch. I don't know what the future value will be but this one watch with value that does not drop a lot. How much will it drop? I don't know. I have not owned this watch before. If you expecting to make money out of it then it is better you invest in other commodities rather than watches. Generally, watches, cars and cameras lose their values unless you so lucky you bought a discontinued much sought after model.

I can speak from experience. If you buy a 5711 blue dial at a discount from retail you will hardly lose money. You may lose money if you sell to a watch dealer.

Normally if you sell privately you can easily break even or make a profit.

I also advise that if I sell my nautilus now i will make a profit even if I undercut all 5711 including white dial listed on chrono24.

The 5711 blue is one of those pieces that tend to hold value very well and you can easily sell due to the demand. I have seen dealers sell second hand 5711 way over retail and they go very fast.

That's true for most people.... But i don't think that's true for people in this forum..... For WIS, it may just means the beginning of a journey....

We can try but I failed. Owning one just means you start looking at watches at that price range.

For mere mortals like us Patek 5131 and 5070 and 5970 are the popular modern collectible.

Besides the blue nautilus the latest aquanaut also tend to hold value quite well.
