My First Custom Project
« on: September 21, 2015, 12:30:49 PM »
I really want a vintage VDB or kaventsmann kind of watch, but its so pricey

so i think to build it with my steel artist friend who can works his magic to make my dream become a reality.. so we started to discuss about the design, movement to be installed etc.

the construction would be :
1. bezel (system would be similar like mille metri, using 3 point screw to retainer)
2. retainer (would be screw in 6 point to the middle case, while it clip the plexi glas, also similar with mille metri)
3. plexi thickness around 5mm ish
4. middle case (using movement holder)
5. caseback (screw to middle case, 6 point)
6. lug (screw to middle case)

the material is using a bronze and duralium for the caseback (i dont want my wrist become patina a while later after wearing it   )

NOTE : all parts will be made by hand using lathe machine except (movement, dial, hands set, strap)

so here is the little of the project of the watch, comment and critics are most welcome

the middle case

the crown

bezel
at first i want the system just a press fitting like seiko etc, but when try it the bezel sit not even  , so changed to the mille metri system.

lug system

lug test fitting

i will post the update later

Thanks

Very nice, how come your friends has a lathe? does he have some engineering shop or something?
I would like to see his work shop set up cos i like machines.
Each handmade watch is sold with part of the watchmakers soul. The effort to make the watch perfectly flawless like a gem, takes a lot of the watchmakers concentration. You pay for the "Loving attention" they give to each movement and watch.

Yes, he's a machinist..but mostly his work is auto parts and he willing to help me to do this project on his spare time.

actually he has a normal machinist set up, except the CNC. he has a milling, big ass lathe, medium lathe, watchmaker lathe and other machinist tools  ;D

nothing fancy  ;D
