Yachtmaster is made in Stainless steels and Platinum is just a little different and a unique Rolex watch.

Hi, here is additional information about the history of yachtmaster

The stainless and platinum Yacht-Master dial and bezel were made out of platinum but, the challenge was that the watch had no contrast. It was beautiful but it looked albino and had no pop. That all changed this rear at BaselWorld when Rolex introduced the new 40mm Reference 116622 with a Cobalt Blue Sunray dial, which is just stunning. With this new version Rolex also updated the case design, by giving the Yacht-Master a Supercase, which means, they made the lugs much thicker.

Here is the additional info:

Woww.. This blue dial yachtmaster really pops up.. But is it fair to compare yachtmaster to explorer? Isnt the yachtmaster a higher end model? priced at 50% higher or maybe more, right?

I'm surprised no one has rooted for the Exp. It gets my vote as it is a better representation of the Rolex DNA - making quality tool watches. Not to mention the history behind the Exp line.

Explorer for me. The YM is too similar in function to the submariner. If it's the YM2, than its different.

Budget aside, go for the yachmaster. The blue dial is insane!  ;D

Agree! U may consider for YM blue then the YM white because i heard that the resell value and new watch discount is lesser than YM white..just my 2 cents comment...

Explorer....like others have pointed out, i cant justify the price diff between the YM and explorer/sub/gmt.... Even if they are similarly priced, i would still go for the explorer....just because of personal preference, specifically the bezel just doesnt appeal me.....

Rolex YM is the way to go. It feels very nice on the wrist and is one of the lesser seen rolex models.

Regarding the explorer, I think there exp 1 is the watch to get. Simple, clean and very understated.

Cheers.

Both are nice watches, however i always feel the new explorer is abit big . I owned both ym and ym2 , and in my own opinion i kind of feel that the ym2 is slightly big and not as sleek as the ym. I would prefer the ym if you going to wear it daily. Apart from that , i feel that all the 40mm rolexs looks better than the bigger ones. That's entirely based on my own opinion.

But just buy whichever watches that you like most. Both of them owns a good dna from Rolex. Buy with confidence heheheheeh

I agree with Spiderboy and feel that any Rolex would look good in 36mm for classic and 40mm for its sports models. That being said. I too have tried the 39mm explorer one on my wrist and I also find it a little on the big side. Prefer the 36mm variant.

So in this case, my vote goes to the YM

i'm actually a big rolex fan...
sold my black dial steel Daytona, just bcoz i find it hard to read, dial is small and busy, the chrono country steel ring is distracting, the hands are so thin...

new explorer 2 hands are fat ! got the black dial version, hands are like floating... dial is big, hands are fat, hour markers are bold and on top of that gmt hand is Striking orange !
the white dial version also super attractive, the glossy black fat hands and hour marker is contrasting with the white dial, super 3d visual impact!

two models with very different looks and DNA.
White vs blue dial-does it affect you?
24 hour hand- needed?
Pricing? important to you?
Size? the 42mm looks odd on people with smaller wrist (my opinion)
