Always stay away magnetic electronic device ie. Tv, radio, hifi etc.

Dont bang it around, stay away from all magnetic fields, keep away from water if not WR rated, dont keep in extreme heat or cold, do not expose to harsh chemicals or salty environment.

I also heard, if u use a watch case to keep ur precious timepiece, clasping ur watch on a pillow which is too hard or too big can actually cause undesirable stretch on ur bracelet.

If you sweat a lot, remember to rinse the watch with normal tap water. Build up of salt from sweat does havoc to the pins that connects the links on a bracelet.

Once a while bathe it with soap to clean out the build up deposit from the seat like what meor mentioned on those WR rated watch. That's what I do. Use a soft sponge dab into some soap and wipe with water

I normally rinse with tap water after each wearing as I sweat quite a bit. After rinsing wipe and air dried before storing. Take off your watch when doing heavy duty stuff to protect your watch from knocks and scratch.

I reckon it shouldn't stretch the bracelet but it could put a constant strain on the screws that hold the bracelet together. But still, for myself, I don't think this is a cause for concern. I squished my watch case's pillows and tied it with rubber bands when first use. After a week or two, the pillow will just stay roughly in that shape and fit in my watch snugly.

what about watches with anti-magnetism? are they more sturdy around electronics or still best to keep away from electronics?

do not use your shirt or tissue to clean your watch of fingerprints/dirt especially on polished surfaces. it will cause hairline scratches especially on softer metals (read: precious metals).

painful lesson learnt...

Yes, tissue and cotton are made of fibre and are abrasive if used hard or often enough, hence the hairline scratches.

even sleeves and cuffs will eventually cause hairline scratches on your watches.

always use a non-abrasive, soft micro-fiber cloth...

Unless its truly anti magnetic like the Rolex Milgauss, IWC top gun, and the new Omega Co Axial movements, then its ok to work around electronics, with the exception of MRI, CAT Scan, and magnetic accelerators. Those are over magnetic, in the range of Teslas.

Other, so called anti magnetic watches, still keep it away, from experience, i have serviced some which are known as anti magnetic but still got magnetised when they are near magnetic fields. Namely, some of my customers are electrical engineers, whose watch got magnetised when he stood near a transformer going on line.

by the way... i've been cleaning my watch daily with a damp bath towel and then wipe it again with soft spectacle handkerchief

after reading this thread... seems like wiping with a bath towel isn't a good idea

Minimal. All my mechanical watches has gone through the scanners (multiple times) and has no problems so far.

yes, even if it doesn't scratch, it will still smell like your bath towel, which is not a good idea

Minimal. Modern mechanicals can whistand the mangnetism generated for the short period of time.

a little magnet is fine. Even years ago, Dalil put magnetic compass in the centre of their auto watch. No problem.

This reminded me of the Qiblah compass watch, IWC+Porsche Design watch that I came across in Passion.

I almost pulled the trigger on this just because it's such a rare find.

This reminded me of the Qiblah compass watch, IWC+Porsche Design watch that I came across in Passion.

I kinna agree with bro Meoramri in giving your watch a good wash especially during the current hot weather. Even a quick lunch at the hawker stall can leave you half drenched in sweat. That's why i'm switching to wearing watches with rubber straps as they don't move as much when your wrists are sweaty and I find them easier to clean compared to bracelet. Just my 2 cent opinion.

Im not sure anyone like me or not, but i kinda held up my left hand (the hand i wear my watch) to my right hand shirt cuff or tidy my hair using my left hand every time i am about to walk pass a door, turn a corner, or walking in crowded places.
