New omega or preowned?
« on: January 23, 2015, 08:44:44 PM »
Hi sifus!! I am planning to buy an omega speedmaster for my own birthday :) this is my first luxury watch. but I am currently in a dilemma whether to buy a new one or a preowned. I can get a preowned at around 5-6k. But considering there is discount for new watch and can be paid by installment, it is ok also if buy new watch.. Can sifus give me some advice in this?

My advise is never buy watches on instalments. It's not a necessity.

1st luxury watch hmmmm, I would say buy new.   The feeling of buying new and used is very different, at least to me.   It is just exciting  :Jumping: and that of coz comes with a price .

For pre-owned, if the condition is acceptable and you don't mind it being used, you will save quite a bit of money.   Omega pre-owned is relatively more affordable and value buy comparing to others.

Good luck ;D

I would recommend that you buy pre owned. There is no point of paying instalments for a watch.

Plus, buying pre owned allows you to stretch your budget too.

Buy new it's your first one .... nothing wrong in buying watch in 0% installment but if you are being charged % then another story but then again your birthday so give yourself a little treat.

1st watch, I bought it new. Later stage going for preowned when gaining more experience and knowledge. Installment no harm if zero insterest and same discount offered. Try ask for more discount, target about 20%! :Praying:

easy to say installment no harm if zero interest, what if you miss a payment? then you pay high interest.

No hurry in buying new watch for yourself. You have to love it to own it. New or pre-owned? Not Important.  ;)

If the seller is reputable and you know enough to evaluate the watch for sale (or at least have someone to guide you), I'd say get pre-owned if the right watch comes along.

If you are new to watches, better to just get new. You'd pay more and probably lose money if you do sell, but at least, there is customer service from the AD and warranty from Omega.

Go for a new one if its your first luxury watch plus its for your birthday present. I wouldn't mind if the price is higher because i know i will never sell my first watch (at least for me :)).

If you pay installment they won't give you any discount through my experience. And 20% is like wishing for rain in the Sahara(if you are talking about new Omegas).

The Longines i will recommend is the Legend diver, Iconic and good price. Most Omega's movement are now in house (Co-Axial) that is why the prices increase alot. Few years back you can get a brand new speedy day date for 6k to 7k brand new because they were using ETA movements that time.

Last year I got a AD speedy day date at 21% to be exact. But I paid in lump sum. But don't know can get nowadays or not. You can try shop around!

For installment I tried once and no issue. If you doubt your schedule payment ability, then better don't stress it up. :Scolding:

Get a immaculate pre-own if you looking to stretch your ringgit since this is your first luxury watch. At least if you plan to change it few years (or maybe months?) down the road, you wouldn't lose as much in terms of value.

Plenty of Speedmaster models around hence you may need to narrow down your options.

The Longines Legend Diver is a good choice nevertheless.

My consideration will be :

For pre own- If I am going to use the watch as a daily beater. Eventually I am going to scar it anyway overtime since i wear it often. Make sure you "buy the seller ". Otherwise dont go for pre own if you are unsure if the watch is genuine.

For new- Unless the new models have got good feature upgrade or you can't find pre own in the market. Or you not going to buy another watch in another 3-5 years then new is also possible.

Hope this helps.

for pre-owned without warranty, make sure you provision some money for servicing.

Agree. Service charge for chrono watches are usually more expensive.

The feeling of losing the one you wanted to get can be frustrating and regretful (for not being faster). But dont fret, you'll find it again... esp new watches.

Personally, I'd go for pre-owned if the price differential is attractive enough... say at least by 30% difference...

Happy Hunting! Enjoy and do post the pic once you've bought it.
