Hublot Big Bang Unico 45mm
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:54:30 PM »
for the pass few months i've been searching for a higher end watch such AP, Lange, PP and etc. Compared with the price, trying out on those model within my budget range, did research around the internet and hear comments from friend who owned those watch, i've finally made a decision on something that i never though i would buy, Hublot  :o

I've owned many different watches and appreciated on every single brand iconic, till today i realize that i should buy something that i really want not something that everyone likes, buying watch is the matter if you really love the watch not because it has a long history, strong brand name or even ppl praise it like a god. I've read thru many though on ppl comparing AP and Hublot which one with longer history and one without. AP no doubt they made good watch but there are many thing to be consider especially comes to the price. I do agree everyone has their own valued watch brand in mind, but today i had break my rules not to follow what other ppl think but what i wish to put on my hand

Consider my first most expensive watch purchase ever as i always try to keep my watches below 30k, Hublot Big Bang Unico Titanium + ceramic 45mm, was first announce in year 2013, i've never really though of getting one since its far away from my budget. Only recently i started to learn thru each brand especially Hublot, which has similar looking to AP and RM, like a combination of AP sporty look case and RM semi-skeleton design, plus their very own in-house UNICO movement with flyback chrono, 72 hours power reserve movement, with the price of similar to only AP diver, why not give a try on Hublot, result ? no regret at all !

the watch itself could stand ! and thanks to the wide deployant buckle design which helps to sit the watch position on my wrist very well

the 3D-ness of the watch, which fascinated me the most !

flyback chrono, smooth swing hand and very nice cotton soft click on the pusher

the Unico movement with so many details and superb finishing, you can see lots of gears moving around

Balance wheel on HUB1214 movement design

floating second hand with gears below

layer and layers !

below are just my personal opinion:

Hublot VS AP diver SS (at similar price range)

Design -Hublot have many spectaculars details on the watch compare to AP Diver, busy looking but still easy to read time, movement are well decorated, AP diver are not able to see the movement although their movement looks nicer especially the golden rotor. Why was it important to me ? because i can admire my watch while I'm waiting or nothing better to do :p

Fitting - Hublot original rubber strap fits my hand well, especially the wide deployment bucket helps a lot on positioning the watch on my hand. AP straps are long unless you get it change to XS size, doesn't really sit well and comes with tang buckle only

Time reading - AP are easier to read compare to Hublot i must admit, i'm quite particular in easy time reading especially spending so much on watches. but i found the way to read the Hublot which the index and hands reflect in certain angle makes thing easier to read out

Reliability - I've yet heard any unico with problems, perhaps there are too little who owned them ? in fact i heard many complaints on AP newer model movement, and comes to long terms ownership, Hublot service is a lot cheaper compare to AP, which is the huge PLUS for me :)

I'm not trying to say AP are not a good watch, in fact i've been always wanted to owned one, only thing is after compare to many factor i end up with Hublot especially this model, I must say that not every Hublot watch are attracted to me but this is something real superb for me.

I hope to put a big full stop for my watch collection for now, but i do know it is impossible, because there is no cure for it till date

AP PP and Lange, soon but not so soon.....  :Praying:

I am not usually a fan of Hublot but this piece is indeed very interesting with a very nice movement.  At least they have put more thought into their in house movement vs. the famous brand that starts with P. Wear in good health bro.

Chris,

Just take a short walk to Pavilion during lunch today. Bring along your credit card.

Resistance is futile. Get one quick before the price goes up (higher swiss francs, lower RM, gst.....).

Good luck!!

David, this is an impressive piece. Very masculine and industrial looking, with so many working parts exposed to be admired. You and Enkidu both have good taste. I am not a fan of Hublot but this gets the thumbs up.

thanks Alvin, watzisname, JeepWH, r3kahsttub, Lurch, femann and dennis  :)

Chris, i did heard about but not sure the consignment quartz watch will be given in the period of your Hublot watch under service is still available, good thing was cost for the normal service is similar to a roc sub price, which i think very reasonable for in house movement watch  :-*

it was Loo who poisoned me euclidorus :'( Yikkie, me either and i still wonder why  :-\

say hi to his brother too  ;D

The cost of servicing a unico is like servicing a sub?
Wow, that's cheap.

Congrats, and well done!

You followed your heart and did not let popular opinions influence you. Good thing too, otherwise we'd be all wearing the same watches!

Thanks for sharing!
