IWC Pilot Mark XVII

Anyone have the experience owning this watch? I kind of like this watch with its simplicity and elegant look. However I'm not using if the ETA 2892 movement is worth the price or not. Is this movement accurate enough? In this price range, would there be other better value watch instead of this?

if i am not mistaken, xvii is using top grade eta 2892 which is very good and reliable, even some watchmakers prefer more than rolex 3135 movement. you can read more here

I heard people saying that his watch is using ETA 2892-A2 which many budget range watch manufacturer like Hamilton and Tissot also have its watch using this movement which selling for under RM2k. Is this true?

hamilton and tissot probably using elabore grade 2892(not top grade) and take note that iwc usually using higher quality of material and workmanship than other cheaper priced brands.

My cousin brother was seriously considering this watch, the IWC mark XVII. For this price range, I suggested that he consider the Rolex Explorer I 39mm instead. Eventually after a month of research he opted for the GMT IIC LN, which stretched his budget by a little. But he is so much happier with the watch. Don't get me wrong, I not an IWC hater as I used to have two in my stable before. Love it's history and elegant design. But with it's history and robustness, I'd opt for a Rolex hands down. So since you have the budget for the IWC, why not consider the explorer I? Just my thoughts.

The price difference between the GMT II and Mark XVII is quite significant for me, the Rolex is actually more than RM10k more. I believe brand new EXP 1 39mm is around 17k+ range from grey importers. Must you buy new? If new the only other watch in that price range I can think of is a Tudor Blackbay..not too familiar with Omega prices but I think maybe the Aqua Terra would fit the bill too?

If you dont mind used and hunt hard enough you can get EXP 1, EXP 2, Sub no date, IWC 377701 etc for around the 12-13k ish range..will hold its value for sure so you wont lose much or any at all when u decide to trade up...

I thought so as well, until I saw the Hamilton Intramatic    with 10mm thickness...at offcial retail price of USD870

not true. tissot and hamilton using eta-2824-2 or day date version Eta 2836

only higher end brands use Eta 2892-A2. its much more expensive than Eta 2824-2 top grade, you find this movement in
IWC, Cartier, Bell & Ross, Omega, etc

I don't think you can get [do not discuss on price] ++, the max will be around [do not discuss on price]. Anyway I got a Chrono. Looks better.

The Chrono is always a popular one. After visiting a few AD and boutiques, I found out that it doesn't stay on the shelf for very long.

If the price can't go down any further, you may want consider getting the bracelet version to get more value out of it...

I think it is still possible because I was hunting the "pilot" before CNY, but I heard that the price will go up after CNY. Anyway I got a chrono!!
Yeah, I was looking around in KL and PJ areas. Most of the ADs do not have the stock, but I was lucky that I found one and the watch was just arrived the day before. So yeah!! I got what I want and happy for it now.
